Why we cannot trust the DLC "poll"
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 03:30 PM by SoCalDem
He said it at the outset..

FIFTY-NINE per cent said they were "professional" class..

People answer poll questions based on what they think of themselves and how the answers pertain to their lives..

So... is the appliance repair guy from Sears , who said he was a professional like the brain surgeon??

Those two would have very disparate interests regarding the economy and govt policy..

Polls are crap.. WE know it, but the media types love to bandy them about, drawing all kinds of conclusions..

The only "poll" that matters is the one on election day, and even that one doesn't matter unless the votes are cast and counted properly..

very disappointed in the conference.. I think they are all just sitting around patting each other on the back, and spewing platitudes...just like......hmmmmmmm we all know who I mean :puke:

1. tsk tsk
This post is sympotatic why Dean is doing so badly.

He should be in the lead right now, but he's not except for one poll in NH.

THey just don't understand modern campaign tactics.

At this rate, Lieberman could defeat Dean.

and in California. And he's moving up quickly in Iowa. Not that this assertion hasn't been addresed 438,395 in the past but we'll go over it ONE MORE TIME. Gebhardt, Lieberman and Kerry have national national name recognition as all have run for president or vice president in the past. The other 6 candidates have far less; however, that is changing and by the time the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire primaries have been held, you can COUNT on Dean being in the top 2. Most people don't even THINK about primaries until, at the most, a month before they actually have to vote. Dean and all the other less-known candidates have 6 months to work on that name recognition and in politics, that's a LONG time.

On Edit: Why am I getting that "de ja vu" feeling with this poster?

3. One
of the first things they teach us in Political Science is the difference between the emperical and the normative, the difference betwen what is and what ought to be.

For instance if survey data suggests that national security will be a threshhold issue in 2004 it doesn't matter a rat's ass if you or me think we have a better chance of bats flying out of our ass than being killed by a terrorist. If the majority of Americans feel strongly about this issue we fail to address it at our peril.
