In a battle zone......one has to choose one's battles carefully

and besides the fight to secure our democratic voting rights with a "fraud free" voting apparatus, I can't think of anything more important to a free society than protecting our free speech and free press. We MUST line up together on this battlefield or we will see a quick end to ALL media venues for a free press. This is a call to arms imo:

President Bypasses Congress to Install 12

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP)- President Bush went around Congress on Friday and installed 12 people to government panels after their nominations stalled in the Senate.

The nominations had languished in the Senate for periods ranging from six weeks to 22 months.

By approving them during the congressional recess, Bush bypassed the Senate confirmation process. Such appointments are valid until the next Congress takes office, in this case in January 2005....>>

How to seize control of the public broadcasting systems......
Who are Bush's appointees?

- Gay Hart Gaines of Florida, to be a member of the board of directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The president nominated Gaines on Nov. 17, 2003. Hart is a major donor to Republican causes and candidates; she gave $1,000 to Bush's presidential campaign in 2000 and again this year, and has given tens of thousands more to Republican National Committee campaign accounts. Gaines was on Board of Directors, Hudson Institute, (neocon think tank) http://www.hudson.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=reports&pubType=HI_Reports

-Claudia Puig of Florida, to be a member of the board of directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Bush first nominated Puig on Jan. 9, 2003. Puig gave the maximum allowable donation to Bush's re-election campaign this year.

- Fayza Veronique Boulad Rodman of Washington, to be a Member of the Broadcasting Board of Governors. The president nominated Rodman on Oct. 24, 2003.

Miami Herald, Alberto Ibarguen, has been moved to head Public Broadcasting and all seem to be coming together to be of great service to Bush during his pResidential campaign and beyond.

Bush’s $800,000 “Pledge Break”

December 23, 2003

Like public television, which gives gifts to those who donate to its pledge campaigns, the Bush Administration has rewarded two major Republican donors with seats on the nine-member board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Cheryl Halpern and Gay Hart Gaines and their respective families have contributed more than $816,000 to Republican causes over the past 14 years.

“But even more troubling,” said Common Cause President Chellie Pingree, “are the agendas they bring with them to the CPB board.” Both Halperin, who was confirmed by the Senate on Dec. 9, and Hart Gaines, whose nomination is pending, have stated views or espoused causes that call into question their qualifications to serve on a board whose mission is to promote and fund public television and radio programming. 1. my first thought was "they're after Bill Moyers"
and the article confirms...

Halpern stirred controversy in the public TV community for comments at her confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee on Nov. 4. When Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) criticized Bill Moyers, the host of public television’s “Now,” as “the most partisan and nonobjective person I know in media of any kind,” Halpern agreed.

at a very dark time. And he has exposed himself to the dark elements of the Neocon machine like few have.

I hope we will stand by him now with the same strength and fearlessness.
