"The Coaltion of the Willing" - Afghanistan?! |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 12:17 AM by oceanpoetry
I am reading Michael Moore's book - "Dude, Where's my Country?!" - and came across an astonishing fact - Afghanistan is top of the list of 30 countries that US named as the "Coaltion of Willing" against Iraq. As of the printing of the book, Michael Moore had not received a response from the State Department what exactly Afghanistan is contributing.
I guess this proves one thing at least: irony is far from dead.

I'm pretty sure that he means Hamid Karzai and whatever the government over there is called now that the Taliban was ousted in 2001.

from what I understand the Taleban backed - PKU Kurds are the ones that caught SH and left him in the hole for us to take into custody.
This is an awesome, must-read book!

3. Yes, that is what he (Bush) means... |
|
...but what are they providing the coalition? Morale support? Coalition of the "willing" but not necessarily "able"...

Yeah, probably just moral support. Meaning they're ok with it. The Brits and the Aussies were the only ones who provided troops during the initial invasion from what I know. Now, you have the Polish, Japanese, Koreans, and some other random countries with troops there too.

9. We had to bribe the others to be willing |
|
With Afghanistan we probably used the threat of withdrawing our troops. That is Bush's SOP. If a bribe does not work, threaten them. Of course the purse Bush takes the money from belongs to the US taxpayers.
