"News Central" nightly TV news - media consolidation at its worst
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 10:53 PM by Paragon
Has your area been subjected to this yet? They just entered the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky market on the WB affiliate. Less reporters, less voices, less news. We told them it was coming - now it's here.

News Central, a centralized news service located at our headquarters in Baltimore produces and distributes national and regional news, sports and weather to our stations using current technology that allows repetitive efforts to be eliminated or reduced. This structure allows the local station to focus completely on reporting local news stories that affect their community.

Oh, and these newscasts come with a conservative commentary - "The Point", from the VP of the company. You can read these gems at the link above. Some of the headlines of his "essays":

(Bill) Moyer's Hate of Patriotism
What's So Bad About Wal-Mart?
Movie Review - "The Reagans"
No Government Handout

1. Part of a bigger media conglomerate - Sinclair Broadcast Group
See if they've infiltrated your market yet.

Sinclair's television group includes 20 FOX, 19 WB, 6 UPN, 8 ABC, 3 CBS, 4 NBC affiliates and 2 independent stations and reaches approximately 24% of all U.S. television households.

Apparently, they're involved with KMWB in Minneapolis.

I have yet to see an obnoxious editorial from Mark Hyman on my tv, though.
