BFEE Starting to Totter — Let's Give 'em a PUSH!
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 10:22 AM by Skinner
From the front pages to the conservative in-laws living rooms, the signs are there that the Bush Family Evil Empire is losing its iron grip on what goes. Let's us at DU give them a nice push to help them "out."

Toward the goal of helping topple the BFEE, I propose DUers pin their political and criminal loathings of Smirk and Sneer on the public forum of this thread. In doing so, we'll create a Big Bill of Grievances, to borrow a phrase, listing those things Bushler and his badministration have done or failed to do on America's behalf.

Who knows? Seeing things in print, some intrepid Attorney General could one day use the listing as the basis for future indictments on charges for conspiracy and treason.

To get the Big Bill of Grievances rolling:

After 9-11, Bush and Cheney did all they could to keep Congress from investigating the terror attacks, including shutting down investigations of terror funding by the FBI. Why? It turns out that several wealthy Saudis are longtime friends of the Bush family.

How BCCI ties to 9-11

National Commercial Bank

EXCERPT…

952. The National Commercial Bank was involved between 1986 and 1990 in the fraudulent schemes and practices of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (or “BCCI”) after NCB Chairman Khalid bin Salim bin Mahfouz became Chief Operating Officer and major shareholder of BCCI. A 1992 United States Senate report on the BCCI affair detailed the role played by the National Commercial Bank in hiding assets and in the cover-up and obstruction of the Senate investigation. The National Commercial Bank was used by Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda as a financial arm. The NCB was operated as a financial conduit for Osama bin Laden’s operations. As a former CIA counter-terrorism expert explained:

How does the al Qaeda organization fund its worldwide network of cells and affiliated groups? Several businessmen in Saudi Arabia and in the Gulf contribute monies. Much of the money is paid as ‘protection’ to avoid having the enterprises run by these men attacked. There is little doubt that a financial conduit to Bin Laden was handled through the National Commercial Bank, until the Saudi government finally arrested a number of persons and closed down the channel. It was evident that several wealthy Saudis were funneling contributions to Bin Laden through this mechanism. Now, it appears, that these wealthy individuals are siphoning off funds from their worldwide enterprises in creative and imaginative ways.

SNIP…

956. Under Khalid bin Salim bin Mahfouz, the BCCI was also implicated in supporting terrorism, as reported by the United States Senate.

In the course of targeting BCCI for laundering drug money, the CIA learned of BCCI's involvement in manipulating certain financial markets, in arms trafficking, and in supporting international terrorism, including handling the finances of Sabri al-Bannah or Abu Nidal, and his terrorist organization.

1. Grievances
It's a fair question. So let's get to it.

My grievances start with 9/11, and they end with breaking the treasury. In between are the export of jobs, the race to the bottom in world wages and working conditions, the loss of civil liberties, the unilateral stance on the world stage, a pre-emptive war that was entered into at least in part based on false claims, and that has set a dangerous precedent for ourselves and for others.

It is hard to justify the reaction, or rather, lack of same, from our government on 9/11. C'mon: we can't even protect the freakin' Pentagon? Our president continued reading with a grade school class, even after learning that the second tower had been attacked? What was going on there -- and who was in charge?

And now we're halfway around the world, waging an unnecessary expensive war, not even aimed at pursuing the actual thugs responsible for the mayhem of 9/11, although our government has tried very hard to make the connection.

Another thing, why aren't the Republicans ashamed of an Administration that would so blatantly use 9/11 for political advantage? And how is it that Bush and the Republicans get high marks on security, anyway? Let's see: 9/11 (massive intelligence 'failure' was really a massive failure on the part of the administration to take the warnings they were getting seriously) (and yes, we're being charitable here); 9/11 investigation blocked, then underfunded; fire fighters, police departments, other first responders are seeing their funds cut; veterans are seeing their benefits cut back. We're off chasing the wrong guys, killing civilians in unnecessary wars, and in general making the world a more dangerous place overall while this White House and various and sundry of their cronies rake in the dough with no-bid contracts... But I digress.

And the media. Let's don't even go there, this rant would never get back on course.

Oops, too late. Well, must be time to sign off! TTFN.

5. You write like Greg Palast!
You are absolutely spot-on in your great listing of issues and grievances against the Bush Organized Crime Family. On behalf of your country, thank you very much.

For a good overview, you might want to check out what Palast reported in the days immediately after 9-11...

Please scroll down on the left side column to the video archive:

"Bush Blocked bin Laden Probe"

Palast's report names names and reminds viewers of stuff from the forgotten State Department officer who warned superiors of suspected terrorists applying for VISAs. Instead of busting the crooks, the bosses squashed the whistle-blower.

Remember the late FBI counterterrorism expert John O'Neill?...

3. You're welcome, antineocon1!
If you like to read up on the Bush Organized Crime Family, you're all right with me and those who believe in the Constitution of the United States. Here's some more recommended reading:

The Bush-Saudi Connection

By Michelle Mairesse

Ancestral Voices

In 1920, under a League of Nations mandate, officials from France and Great Britain carved up vast tracts of warlord-dominated territories in Arabia into what they imagined would be nation states devoid of the complex historical, cultural, and tribal realities of the Mideast.

Instead of establishing European-style nation states, the strongest warlords quickly entrenched themselves with the aid of standing armies and spy networks. In much of the Mideast, fealty is often accorded to tribal overlords and the Islamic sects they favor rather than to the territory and people within the boundaries of the nation state. Jonathan Rabin succinctly defines the reality, past and present, of the desert sheikdoms: "The systems of government that have evolved in Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia are paranoid family dictatorships with ancestral roots in a single city or village." (1)

Islamic fundamentalists like Osama bin Laden make their appeals to the nation or community of believers, not to any particular nation state, although the rich and powerful among the Muslims have founded Western-style businesses and formed corporations both inside and outside the boundaries of their native countries. Because Osama himself is a scion of a rich Saudi family with wide-ranging business interests throughout the world, the split Saudi personality is most evident in him and the bin Laden clan. Osama, who calls America "The Great Satan," has done business with the infidel Americans whenever it suited him.

Throughout the eighties, when the United States assisted the Saudis in a giant military buildup of airfields, ports, and bases throughout the kingdom, many of the contracts were awarded to the largest construction company in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Binladen Group, founded by Osama bin Laden’s father.

At the same time, the United States trained and armed troops in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. The United States and Saudi Arabia spent about $40 billion on the war in Afghanistan, recruiting, supplying, and training nearly 100,000 radical mujahideen from forty Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, and Afghanistan itself. Among the recruits were Osama bin Laden and his followers. (2)
