Grytpype's predictions for 2004 |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 09:03 PM by grytpype
OK, I have consulted the auspices, and here are my predictions for 2004:
Dean wins the Democratic nomination, and picks General Clark to be his running mate.
Iraq gets much worse. For a while, insurgent activity levels off since the insurgents have achieved their goals: minimal international involvement in Iraq and Bush running for the exits. As the July 1 deadline to turn over authority to a provisional government approaches, civil war breaks out. The coalition does little to prevent the violence and begins to pull its forces out. Bush blames all this on the Iraqis for not being cooperative.
The 9/11 inquiry discovers very damning information about what the Bush Adminstration knew and did prior to the attack. The Administration tries to prevent the commission from making its findings public, and the issue is ultimately decided by the Supreme Court, against the Administration.
Bush Administration officials will testify before a grand jury in the Plame Affair -- but only after being ordered to by a federal court. Sources in the CIA continue to leak information. By summer, the identities of the leakers are known. Later, we learn that Cheney personally authorized the leaking strategy to discredit Wilson. He refuses to resign.
Rush Limbaugh reaches a plea agreement in his Oxycontin case. He will do time.
Saddam Hussein is tried in secret before a hand-picked Iraqi tribunal, convicted, and hanged just prior to the GOP convention.
Despite a bounce from the execution, Bush's re-elect number is well under 50% by November. In the general election, Dean and Clark unify the anti-Bush majority, and win everywhere except the South. The Republicans lose seats in both houses from the suction generated by the collapse of Bush's presidency, but they keep control of both houses.
Finally, we will ring in a very happy 2005!

3. It might be optimistic, but all of it is within the realm of possibility! |

2. you are too optimistic for me... |

I think Bush wins in 2004, again by questionable circumstances... there's another terror attack, martial law... everything settles down in a few years, Hillary wins in 2008, and it's business as usual for corporate America.
