Poll question: Democratic Underground Forums are ... |
|
What is your view of DU on the democratic political scale, how do you perceive it?
Is there a place for conservative democrats on DU? Is there room for greens on DU.
Is the Big Tent really inclusive to all democrats or just ones that think like you (Liberal, Conservative, Moderate, etc.)?
*Please refrain from moving this discussion into a commie vs repuke discussion.

3. It's Democratic UNDERGROUND... |
|
I think the idea was to provide a forum for ideas the mainstream didn't cover.

5. I wonder what became of that idea. |
|
Because increasingly the underground is shouted down here, and seemingly a cause of embarassment.

10. forum for ideas the mainstream didn't cover - as in any and all DEM IDEAS |
|
As long as respect is shown to each other, I have never seen a thread closed because of Dem Idea differences.
Now suggest a GOP take from the poor to give to the corporate or rich, trust me they will be kind - idea, and I would expect someone to note that it was not a "underground" Dem idea.
Likewise dump on others who feel gov can solve at least some problems and call themselves Democratic Party Members, and I would expect some difficulty with the thread continuing.
A far-left board is not DU - despite the GOP RW nuts - and their media friends - attempts to sell us as such.

dont know anything..but I do see a convergence on these boards. I see a certain spirit I suppose. I also believe this site and others will create a large enough block of voters and awareness to the chimp problem to overcome the unusual obstacles before us in the coming election.

There is a LOT of debate on this board. There are many different perspectives. Sometimes I read and get filled with hope, sometimes..it results in resignation that any meaningful change is possible.
What I can attest to is that if you ask a question about darn near ANY subject, it will be responded to by some extremely knowlegable posters even if you need to ferret through a bit of junk to get to the more informed responses.
Hope you enjoy your newfound source.
I see the spirit you see too..in fact..nowhere is it more evident than when something bad happens to people and they post in the lounge and receive literally dozens of empathetic and supportive replies.

9. What's up with this poll? |
|
Compare and Contrast choices 2 and 3:
2) DU is far too liberal and could do with more conservative/moderate democratic views.
3) DU is to conservative and could do with some more liberal/green views.
Choice 3 has the spelling error, the understatement, and the moderated option of increase. Was it really that hard to write? You could have copied the text from choice 2 and switched liberal to conservative and vice versa, you know.

14. sorry about that. It was an honest error. |
|
At work trying to throw something together fast. Not intended.
If you want to get snippy about a spelling error then I suggest you start spelling your name with an O and not an 0. :)
I truly was an honest error.

17. Truly, the spelling error is the least of the concerns I listed |
|
It just seems as if we're signing on to an inferior selection by voting for #3.
As for the O/0 thing, have you considered the alphabetical ordering advantages of having a zero at the start of your name?

DU "used" to be just perfect.. Unfortunately, as it grew and grew, we have some people here who apparently cannot find a place that represents THEIR view, so they have set out to change the way DUers think..
There has always been bickering, and that's not what I mean.. Lately there is just plain obnoxious behavior..
Is it REALLY necessary to continually post "stuff" about your pet candidate ad nauseum?? We all pretty much know who they are by now, and it's like rubbing salt into the wounds of others who feel the exact same way about THEIR candidate.. There is nothing positive to be gained by the rude attacks towards each other..
Instead of becoming MORE accomodating towards all people, some have become LESS accomodating and downright mean to each other..
Other than the "paid observers" (if there are any here), very few of us will have any impact on any campaign, other that the one vote we cast.. Some are running and some are working for campaigns, so I do NOT mean those people..
Some are posting here as if they can actually convert people.. That's not really what I thought DU was .. DU has always been more of a sounding board where those of us who are thoroughly disgusted by Bush, could gather and discuss ALL sorts of things..
My fear is that even after the primaries are over, there has been so much bitterness that it may not subside.
It's easy to lob that hand grenade and then run for cover, but when you are blowing your friends' hands off, what have you really "won"??

16. I see much more taunting than I used to see |
|
started with candidates - not the i love my guy! posts... but the intentional provocation against your guy posts... and the jump in and stir the pot folks who support one candidate - can't stand another - and jump on the i love my guy! posts (or the I hate your guy posts!) for a third candidate - just to stir the pot of flames between the two other candidates and their supporters.
Have begun to see it more frequently (they have always been here) on general discussion threads as well - they are more than basic flamebait threads... but taunting - teasing - daring - and in your words - Obnoxious - threads.

DU is a lifeline, providing news that the US media refuses to cover. I watch very little TV news, and read the papers for the sports, maybe op-ed. Here is where I learn the important news of the day. I try to ignore the infighting, the paid trolls and disruptors. Even though I have my preferences for the Democratic nominee I see no point in trying to sell one candidate over the other.

I think DU is more left/liberal than the Democratic party overall -- BUT -- I don't think it's too left/liberal. DU is what it is and I like it that way!
