Life imitates Bowling for Columbine |

Today the NRA announced their convention next year will be in Pittsburgh, the same day the announcement was made that a new record was set in homicides in Allegheny County.
But...but I thought that the NRA really isn't so heartless and it was just that mean old Michael Moore making the poor widdle NRA look bad in his evil movie....

3. The NRA announced quite some time ago... |
|
that the convention would be in Pittsburgh. It's misleading to suggest that Pittsburgh's (or Allegheny County's), homicide rate has anything to do with the NRA; or that their announcement was meant to coincide with the announcement of homicide rates. Your observation is the kind of dishonesty and distortion of facts that Michael Moore and the Brady Campaign are fond of.

6. They apparently had some sort of announcement today |
|
The local wingnuts were daring the Post Gazette (liberal newspaper) to write a column on it so they can have more fresh meat for their listeners.
Maybe the wingnuts were making shit up, I neither know nor care about them or the NRA convention.
However, thanks for the attempted character assassination there. I was starting to feel left out at DU since no one so far had questioned my honesty/ethics/devotion to the cause yet.

4. So, they should hold their convention in a crime-free area? |

7. The definition of criminal is “one who has no regard for laws”. |

The definition of criminal is “one who has no regard for laws”. To make gun ownership illegal would only affect the law abiding citizens and would not take one gun out of the hands of a criminal. I would be willing to bet that not one of the homicides in Allegheny County was committed by a NRA member.

8. I wasn't intending to link the NRA to the killings |
|
My dad was, and several members of my girlfriend's family are, responsible gun owners and NRA members.
However the NRA uses its clout with gun owners to swing elections with misleading or blatantly false information. I know for a fact they sent fliers to PA members in 2000 saying Al Gore had a master plan to take everyone's guns away and if you don't want that you better vote for W.
Considering how close that election turned out, I haven't forgiven them for those tactics.
