Things not looking so good for us right now...
you name it, from the probable staged killings of the hussein brothers, to bob hope's death, to this probable fake story of possible airline attacks today, the bush cabal is right back on track with their agenda, masking the true misdeeds once again from getting coverage...

everyone's all but forgotten about yellowcakegate, condoleeza "white" rice, and all the other atrocities of this nefarious group of people...

i would say they're good, that they're real good at spinning... but look what they're up against -- a PATHETIC JOKE of a media and idiotic american know-nothing people...

i'm in a foul mood today :-(

1. As I said in another thread, all we would have to do is make the case....
....about republicans from back in Nixon's days until now using underhanded and truly dispicible tactics for political and personal gain while humdreds and sometimes thousand of Americans have died in the process.

Of course we have to bypass the media and go from rethug or from independent voter to independent/rethug voter and let the info do the drip, drip, drip thing.

2. Felt that way too, but Dan Rather said last week...
when reporting on the passing the buck going on in the regime over the SOTU lies - "this is a long way from over..." I got the sense he was putting bushco on notice...

Its just a lull. Or at least I'm hoping so.

3. What do you expect?
When we have the DLC undermining our efforts like they do.

I have little to no use for collaborators.

4. I'm not very happy either
Lead story on CNN is "The Hunt for Saddam" - intro features pic of his statue being toppled. We are closer to "getting the prize" what's her face (she's so nondescript I can't even remember her name) exclaims with joy. Uggghhhhhh....
Then we hear about the possible terror plot to hijack more planes and a bunch of other garbage.
Finally, a casual mention that more soldiers were killed in Iraq today. It's becoming so commonplace, our media doesn't even care.

On a brighter note - MSNBC's Imus and Buchanan were on this morning and DID talk about SOTU - Imus named Condi as responsible but Buchanan leaned toward Cheney. At least they were talking about it, and sounded very condemning. What's wrong with chimpy talking to the people before he hides in Crawford anyway?

6.  Buchanan's not ready to cut loose "Nigergate"
I've a feeling that Washington insiders will keep this going--at least until Condi's head rolls.

5. well since i work in the tv news biz
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 09:15 AM by newsguyatl
i can tell you the two leads today:

-"the hunting of saddam hussein": -- tightening the noose, found a bodyguard last night, with even accompanying video of the raid to capture him (read: jessica lynch)...
-"possible terrorist attack threats on airlines": -- department of homeland security putting out warning today... just that, a warning...

TOTAL administration spin, and go figure, the media will fall for it hands down...

no coverage of developments in nigergate, no condoleeza "white rice" lies story, no outing of cia agent story, no diebold voting machine story, very dumbed down coverage of the continual attacks on our troops (watch for the spin today that folks on the ground in iraq are seeming "more welcoming to our troops now); and also watch and see how the pentagon futures betting story will be played down... it will get some attention, but not much...

on edit: sparosnare -- sorry, didn't see your post until after i'd posted... looks like we're on the same page...

8. I think it's looking great for us...
...IF we take advantage of this stumbling, bumbling administration.

- Many Dems are ON FIRE about being lied to...but certain elements of the party (DLC) are protecting Bush's* ass by continuing to support his insane policies.

9. What do you DO, newsguy?
I don't want you to blow cover but wondered where in the thicket do you work: reporter, on air, paper, edit, tv, radio, WHAAAAT?

I worked at NPR and have done radiojournalism and news off and on since college.

Wondered what you did. Are you in a position top SHAPE the news I guess is what I'm getting at.

7. Patience, me laddies
The hand of karma moves slowly, but inexorably. The bills are coming due for ChimpCo. By November of this year -- if not sooner -- some massively goonish bill collectors will be pounding at the White House door.

10. There is no choice but to continue.
On an off note, the summer film, "Seabisquit", which I haven't seen, prompted a documentary which I saw part of last night. What was it that made that horse run- he apparently wasn't a particularly special horse with impressive blood-lines or a pedigree. Not to project human traits on a horse, but the horse could hardly lose--as if doubt never entered his thoughts.

There is no choice but to do it like it was divine inevitability..

21. Maybe he was
The documentary painted him as a horse who would be more appropriately pictured pulling an ice wagon than winning horse races. Apparently, during the Depression, it was this quality of the horse of the common man that made him so popular. Like I said, I only caught part of the documentary(the last part), so I don't know his origins.

All I know is losing wasn't an option.

22. Its a fantastic movie
I am reading the book now. And it is a classic underdog vs. powers that be story. Kind of like where we find ourselves right now. But I have no doubt in my mind that we will prevail. I will not allow myself to think otherwise. And there is nothing more powerful than that. A lot like Seabiscuit.

11. They would look alot better if we would find something POSITIVE
to say to all the suburban and middle class famililies with kids who will DECIDE this election. We need to talk about programs for these voters that excite them and make them want to vote for us.

All this handwringing over "there's not enought negative news" on Bush out in the media is a LOSER's strategy. Sure, it's necessary to point out the deficiencies in his record but for pete's sake, can we please start talking about the PROGRAMS our side is going to implement to help America and get people excited about voting democratic again?

That way, we are not TOTALLY dependent on Bush-bashing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Bush-bashing. But surely, we can come up with something other than Bush-bashing if we want to win.

17. We need to merge the two approaches:
The Dem candidates need to distance themselves from bush by the content of their policies and programs.

They need to start saying to the people: "bush screwed up (such and such) and now you are hurting (this way). I propose to do this that will help you (THIS way)".

The drumbeat has to become: Hammer bush - propose a correct policy. Over and over and over ...

Most of what I hear and read from the Dems is some mewing about some vague policies somewhat different from the repubs (Kuchinich and Dean excepted)

I guess I'm looking for the campaign equivalent of a junkyard dog, because it is going to take a mean SOB to beat the amoral Rove-ians.

19. Bush made one huge mistake
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 09:54 AM by Snellius
Not the bu**sh**, or the stupidity, or the arrogance. When asked if he took responsibility for what he said in the State of Union, he passed the blame. Now, people may excuse the other failings, and people may say they still support the President, but everyone knows this is not the standup thing to do. It's a sign of weakness and a glimpse at the kind of false macho bull-horn bravado that he's been using to bully the American public since 9/11. The act is wearing false.

24. And now chimpy is retreating - hasn't said a damn thing to the people
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 10:06 AM by sparosnare
Why doesn't this anger more people? If I had been a chimpy supporter - I'd want to hear from his mouth exactly what happened with SOTU - I'd be pissed he's not speaking out. He's a goddamn coward for allowing his cronies to speak for him - no one knows which end is up anymore - was it good info or not? If it was as chimpy claims, then what's the big deal? I know I'm preaching to the choir here - but to all my repug acquaintances, WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP FROM OUR PRESIDENT????

I don't believe for one minute he was out of the loop.

26. Piffle.
One thing we know is Bush's numbers can't stay up without panic or catastrophe.

By next year, the disaster of his regime will be so overwhelming there will be barely a reaction to panic.

And our soldiers will keep dying, sweetie. Isn't it grand how we can count on that?

30. I had to listen to freeper inlaws all weekend!
You think you are in a foul mood? I am right there with you. I spent the weekend with my bigot, jerk, freeper brother-in law and his equally freeper wife and son. It was pathetic. I got drunk and asked questions and listened to all of the predictable rush/hannity/oreally/fauxnews reponses you can imagine. What a waste of time and I had a terrible hangover on Sunday.
