Help me, I can’t deal with all the disinformation, topic changes, daily insults to democracy and personal liberty, lies and general hubris, I just can’t seem to get my hands around this whole Afghanistan issue. What the hell is happening there? The media ignores it like Republicans ignore deficit spending and climbing poverty statistics.
Remember that? We went into Afghanistan to deal with Osama bin Laden, that guy that (might have) masterminded the S-11 attacks on the US? We bombed the crap out of the country, killed a bunch of civilians and left a door open for the senior members of Al Queda to exit stage North so they could come back and keep Afghanistan hot.
* lost interest, as his alcohol and cocaine soaked semblance of grey matter is prone to do and his oil buddies reminded him why they selected him for the office in the first place – to get that damn oil out of Saddam’s clutches.
So, a few dozen lies and 10’s of thousands of lives later, we have forgotten Afghanistan and moved on to be major screw-ups in Iraq.. Terrorism, according to today’s reports, is a major threat again, Osama Bin Forgotten roams the desert free to do as he pleases, and 9/10’s of the world despises us – the others receive so much aid from us that they can’t openly show their disdain.
My question, after the rant, is what is going on in Afghanistan? It is virtually ignored by media and politicians alike. How many US service members have died over there? I have searched the web on a least 4 occasions and can’t seem to find any numbers. Why the hell aren’t numbers available? How many troops are even in country?
In my searches I did find this article. Once again * throws money at a problem to look like he is on the job….

The Bush administration will soon propose a $1 billion aid package for Afghanistan aimed at bolstering the government of President Hamid Karzai and countering criticism that U.S. officials have lost interest in rebuilding the country as their focus has shifted to postwar Iraq, senior administration officials said yesterday.
