"insurgents" disguised as journalists in sneak attack ???
sorry no link, just caught the story on CNN.

they're reporting that a group of insurgents, wearing fake 'press' credentials, made a 'sneak attack' on a convoy...

anyone wanna bet on things getting MUCH worse for getting anything resembling the truth out of Iraq now...

unbelievable....

3. Well
Many of the insurgents are not Iraqis, but foreigners from other countries coming to Iraq to destabilize the region and kill American soldiers. That is why they are not Iraqi defenders, they are not Iraqis.

21. aw, c'mon, you know they all had their passports on them!
Arab passports are the strongest substance on earth, stronger even than Flight Data Recorders!

What I find odd is that it's supposedly some kind of major no-no for non-Iraqis no go to Iraq and fight, but we have an entire "coalition" of assorted foreigners over there...

seems they misunderestimated iraqis will to resist a foreign invasion.

27. I remember, in the early days of the invasion...
they were saying that the Iraqi "Saddam loyalists" were going to dress up like American soldiers, and go around killing Iraqi civilians, in order to make us look bad...

I know 6-year-olds that wouldn't fall for that

US captures Iraqi for smuggling foreign fighters

AFP< FRIDAY, JANUARY 02, 2004 02:37:53 PM >

BAGHDAD: US troops arrested an Iraqi who was believed to be smuggling foreign fighters into Iraq from Syria, and also captured 10 Muslim fundamentalists northeast of Baghdad, the military said on Friday.

In the western town of Ar-Rutbah, soldiers from the Third Armoured Cavalry Regiment on Thursday caught a man they suspected of managing the movement of foreign fighters inside Iraq from Syria...

23. the article doesn't seem to say the 10 were foreign
it's almost more like 2 stories in one- they caught a guy they think brings fighters over the border, AND they caught 10 terraists...

26. Actually, the link contradicts the disinfo
The original bit of unfounded assertions was unsourced, of course. The link later given is completely irrelevant. It seems that someone says one captured Iraqi was "believed to be responsible for moving foreign fighters and large sums of cash" and the number 10 refers to the taking of of "Wahhabists, a puritanical strain of Sunni Islam."

As for the 85% cited - that is just so far from reality as to be worrisome.

30. See, the Army did learn something from VietNam!
Blame all your problems in your sector on other people not doing their jobs.

Getting killed by IEDs? Hell, they must come from somewhere else, since we "control" this area and we don't see no bomb factories here. Damn Navy letting those boats by. Probably doing it on purpose to rub our noses in the football loss.

No WMD's? Hell, they moved them somewhere else where we can't go.

And on, and on.

15. ah, like when the French helped us fight off the British Empire!
of course, back then WE were the terrorists, disregarding the conventional rules of battle, dressing in non-uniforms, sneak attacks, ambushes, etc...

of course, any foreign fighter would ONLY be in Iraq to "destabalize the region and kill American soldiers", right? As if the region was stable...

maybe many of them are entering Iraq to drive off an army of foreign invaders? Many probably also know that THIER homes and families will be next on our list?

I guess that's naive of me, it makes more sense that they would risk a horrible, bloody death just to make the Americans look bad...

sure as shit they do NOT want the full story of "Mission Accomplished" to get out.

too bad no one is reporting on how FUBAR the Afghani situation is...

I predict more dead journalists and much less news.

22. Or at least getting an occupying power out...
As I recall the Iraqis showed no special interest in killing our men until we invaded their country (and don't give me that bullshit about "liberation" - how would we respond if the tables are turned?).

We've killed upwards of 10,000 civilians and God knows how many of their troops (mostly young conscripts), even admitting to immolating them with incendiaries, and have announced that we have no intention of even counting Iraqi casualties. And this in an invasion based on the lies of WMD and a 9-11 connection. So who exactly is the aggressor here?

28. In guerilla warfare, it's "whatever works"
They don't have rules. They want to win. We are a foreign occupying power in a country that did not attack us. If the same thing happened in my country, I wouldn't have rules either. I would fight the invaders to the death, using whatever means I had at my disposal.
