one of the dumbest claims I've heard yet from a Freeper
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 12:41 AM by ButterflyBlood
that basically us anti-war folks should hate France even more than them. Because if France had joined in and got the US full support, Saddam would've likely folded and fled the nation, hence the invasion wouldn't of happened.

Yeah, that makes sense, Saddam was sure he could take on the country that spends more on the military than the next 20 combined, but not if France and a few more European countries joined in...

Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 12:37 AM by Ksec
I was against the invasion. Not against getting him. That could have been done peacefully without the thousands of deaths and dismemberments.

10. Actually, capturing Saddam was not a goal.
Here are the goals as outlined by USCENTCOM (from a previous post of mine):

4. God, I'm so
fucking sick of the idiot freepers obsession with and hatred of France! We wouldn't even be a country today if it hadn't been for France. And they obviously don't have the intelligence to separate France's POLICIES made by its LEADERS from its ORDINARY CITIZENS who have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

7. Vive la France! (both its government AND it's people)
The freepers don't see the difference because they believe our government's doing what it's doing for THEM. I've been to France, and the mist intolerable people I saw there were "ugly Americans". French people were actually pretty cordial.

...I now go out of my way to buy French products (luckily, they're usually of better quality anyway).

12. I don't particularly care for the French government myself BUT...
The stereotype that the people are rude is total bullshit. When I was in Paris we were lost and a woman was nice enough to come up and give us directions in English. All of the people in the restaurants spoke English and were very nice. Frankly I didn't meet a single jerk there.

who laughed hysterically at my fractured French.

16. I tried French (from French class 15 years ago in high school)
(I did actually try to study a few basic phrases before I went). Without exception, people seemed genuinely happy that I made the attempt and went out of their way to help me. The worst reaction I got was a waiter who smiled at my pitiful attempt to ask a question and said, with a smile, "In English, please" (he really was good-natured about it).

18. Your signature is funny...
I know a guy who went to france just after the War started, and he dropped some change, and some french guy kicked it in the gutter then spit on him. But still, that's no reason to stereotype the entire population.

At least this Freeper had an original thought. We can talk about how dumb that original thought is, but they need to take baby steps here.;-)

that persons born in this country have no right to citizenship.

Then another (thank god) posted the relavent section of the constitution.

13. "Actually, this idea of Saddam
giving up if the French were involved started on hate radio. Roger Hedgecock, filling in for needletrax, said the same. Freepers repeat, they have no original thoughts.

15. So true,
If they were capable of thinking for themselves, instead of being told what to think they would become democrats real quick, just like I did back in '88 because of old man Bush.

17. Just maybe
if shrubbie did not insult our allies, learned the art of diplomacy and compromise and actually bowed to the wishes of the UN he may have had a UN unified threat, a real coalition against Saddam that would have accomplished what the freeper says.

Foreign policy by petulance, these are the results.

20. Desperate rationalizations....
Hate, hate, hate. Let's hate anyone who doesn't grovel before the Emperor. Geez. What's happening now is a series of explanations of what coulda, shoulda been. What no one seems to be focusing on is the breach of International Law that Dubya managed to carry off. The PNAC plan of pre-emptive actions is designed to make the UN irrevant, and to create a fear factor throughout the entire world. Freepers of the world are uniting to distract from the challenges that have to be made during this election year. They're doing fine. We should not be falling into their trap of even defending the opposition to the war. France is irrelevant in the equation. The war was illegal, immoral, and a long planned action. Bush is dangerous. His supporters are sheep. Ignore them. Don't even bother with these baseless statements.

Stay informed. Get others to stay informed. Only then do we have a chance of unseating the Emperor...
