Daily show last night Tom Brokaw "admits" Media makes news up |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 11:23 AM by Bandit
Well almost anyway. He as much as said so after Jon told him that the Daily Show makes up things. Tom said Mainstream does the same thing then he said I shouldn't say that and backtracked a bit. But definitely left that impression. He also said Democratic Administrations were far more open with media than Republicans. He said Republicans were notorious for secrecy and it made their (media)jobs much tougher. All I can say is "Well Duh!"

1. Well, grow a spine and report the truth. |
|
That's the first step Brokaw.
The media in this country is absolutely muzzled and worthless.

3. That's why we need some true investigative journalists again; people |
|
who will root out the stuff we should be hearing and find out the truth; there is always someone who will talk, just for the ego-trip of knowing that the 'unnamed source' in the article in today's paper really was him/herself... I think many TV 'journalists' in particular have become what they used to call what passed for 'anchors' in England: "News Readers." They didn't have fancy sets and teams of people, it was one man/woman at a simple desk and they were called accurately "news readers." That's what we have: we have news readers who read to us what the corporate owned, wrong-wing whore media wants us to know.

I have the feeling thats why Rush is '99.9%' correct all the time. He's been prepping the ditto heads for days to soften the blow about the immigration issue so they wont be completely outraged at their leader...he's been trying to convince his audience that its ok because we dont want the jobs they're taking away anyway.

8. i'd say that is mis-information-ish |

Even the more obscure segments om the media establishment don't really "make up" stuff - not usually. The problem is that they don't report on a lot of the important things, they do report on a lot of trivial stuff, and with those significant things that they do report on they spin it in favor of those who the press depends on, and they don't connect the dots.
"...they are careful to phrase things so that they are literally true, just misleading." - Krugman
ponder this: "93 million taxpayers will get an average tax break of 1083 dollars next year". "average"; indeed literally true. and it sounds good. just doesn't pan out the way one would obviously expect.
So the roll of the media is somewhat more complex then simply "making news up". It is only made up i so far that it is presented as news, while most of it is in fact either of little importance, or misleading. Probably more significant is the fact that they don't report on a lot of important issues- but that is not "making up news", rather it's very bad journalism.
