Does anyone feel less defensive about their political views than ever
before?

What I mean is that despite the solid pro-administration media coverage there seems to be a turning tide. Bush supporters aren't as strident, and shrug more. They can't defend him on the war beyond the sound bite. The economy really isn't booming, again past the sound bite. And in their guts the Republicans know what a mess things really are.

Or is it just me?

1. I've never felt defensive about my political views
I've worked on policy and always tried to do what would accomplish the most good for the most sides of the issue I work on.

It is supposed to occur by debate and consideration.

2. Yes,
things were a little tense after Saddam's capture and I (being an obvious Dean supporter) was attacked by repuke friends and family. But I stood my ground and repeated that if we are now so "safe" why are we in high alert? And now that Dean is creeping back up in the polls against *, I feel even better. Just wait till November!

3. we went out to dinner with some new friends
and I stopped just as I was about to make some sort of political-ish comment to parenthetically state my Liberalness.

The new fella said, with somewhat sad embarrassment that "yeah, most of our friends are but we're republicans"

A few weeks later we were at a party (a large gathering of the sad republican's aforementioned friends) when an elegant art-director type latecomer breezed in loudly announcing

"We have GOT to get rid of that fu**ing ge**ge b**sh. He should be in jail, not the White House!"

I like these new people!

4. Yes and no
I sense a little of what you describe, but then I remind myself that it could become a prelude to complacency, so I go back to being paranoid.

5. Yes - too much at stake
I'm in my 50s, and have never seen the likes of these protofascist neocon liars and anti-American radical Bushbots. I have always been a pretty moderate liberal, but this - this - is a challenge that the nation has never faced before. I can see it, in light of American history, as plain as day: A second Bush term means the end of this nation (the good stuff) as we know it. Why can't others see it? What has happened to the media? Are they that afraid of Limbaugh's criticism?
