Is the MoveOn incident a sample of things to come? Watch out for Rove...
Karl Rove is a master at the self-inflicted dirty trick. I would expect that as this year progresses, we'll see any number of incidents that make 'ole Georgie look like a beat-up puppy. And it will all come from Rove.

Rove's dirty fingerprints could also be seen in the Iowa Senate race between Tom Harkin and GOP candidate Greg Ganske. A few months ago, a story was leaked that the Harkin campaign had employed a spy within the Ganske campaign. To put this in a Rove context, we must go back to the 1986 Texas gubernatorial race in which Rove's candidate Bill Clements was taking on Democratic Governor Mark White. Just before a debate between the two candidates, Rove spun the story that his office had been bugged. No proof. But the insinuation that White's people had carried out the bugging was reported by the media. In the election, Clements defeated White. Rove stashed away more political capital into his already heavy knapsack of ill-gotten IOUs.

During the 2000 presidential campaign, we were obviously treated to more Rove chicanery when the following Associated Press story hit the wires: "A woman who worked for a media company that produced ads for President George W. Bush's campaign was indicted for secretly mailing a videotape of Bush practicing for a debate to Vice President Al Gore's campaign." Yes, that videotape, along with a 120-page briefing book, just happened to turn up in Gore's headquarters as fast as the CD-ROM turned up in Lafayette Park. The sourcerer Segretti must be very proud of his apprentice. In 1980, no Republican bemoaned the fact that Jimmy Carter's debate briefing book was swiped and found its way into the hands of the Reagan-Bush campaign. In Rove's world, its only an affront when someone "steals" your own campaign secrets and not when your are on the receiving end of a heist.

Exposing Karl Rove

It's what he does. No one has spent more time doing dirty tricks and covering up behind himself than Rove. And the beauty of the self-inflicted dirty trick is that it is so difficult to expose the trick. Get a third party to expose a know skeleton in your candidate's closet at the last minute and EVERYONE will think your opponent has "gone dirty".

About the only defense for Rove is to "bell the cat". Make sure that everyone knows his MO so that when the inevitable self-inflicted dirty trick occurs, Rove will be the chief suspect. Of course, this assumes an honest press. But something must be done...

1. They need to expose Rove/Cheney /Rummy all individually.
One commercial dedicated to each one of them individually.

6. He might be a little preoccupied
with a trial. I know, I know, sounds too good to be true, but I think the Plame shit is about to hit the Bush fan in a big way.

7. He may "resign" at some point, but he will NOT be out of the loop.
little king george can't afford to lose him. If there were to be any resignations, they wouldn't be worth the paper they're written on, because such a resignation will be a complete smoke-screen fraud. He might SAY he's resigned, but he'd still be busy, AND probably still on the payroll somewhere.

Rove and bush are joined at the hip, and THAT will NEVER EVER change. EVER. They'll probably be buried together someday.

19. The sooner we open up assaults...
on Rove and the rest of the bastards...the better off we'll be. We must remeber that Bush is there to keep our attention off the rest of these slimy gutter lizards. Even if Dems have to manufacture stories about Rove and the rest, it will at least keep them off guard enough for us to attack their vagabond policies. Rove may be slick...but I'm sure theres someone even slicker than he, and hopefully he or she will appear in our camp!

3. Juggling the lies will become untenable
This administration has distorted to the point that they don't know what the truth is today, let alone in a few months. Let us never forget rove and his kind are evil bastards. He probably has a fake heart attack in his bag of tricks to extradite him from the mess he is now creating.

8. lying liars
just be prepared. The lying liars are going to lie more than they ever have before, no matter who the dem candidate is.

They will lie and lie and lie about everything. And the media will repeat their lies. It's gonna be real ugly.

15. I'm afraid you are correct
Of course, said meme implies a willful ignorance of the history from 1993-2000.

But, history has more or less been obliterated (or on it's way to being so) in today's Empire.

Sadly, I think it will work. But I hope not.

9. I think what we are seeing now is going to be pale in comparison
to what is to come. Especially if it is going to be "a tight race". Ironically enough, I just finished Franken's latest book around the time of the Plame out. It sounds so Rovian! I don't think you need an honest press to figure out when Rove is behind something. He is so obvious now. Exposing his MO would be perfect!

10. I agree. Here's some more...
Remember the last minute DUI exposure during 2000?

Remember "Clinton's Staff trashed the White House"?

And I strongly suspect that somewhere Rove had something to do with the LA Times stories about the Schwarzenegger.

We simple have got to give Rove a reputation for this kind of stuff.

11. I remember the Clinton's trashing the WH story vividly!
And remember how it was TOTALLY UNTRUE but the press failed to mention that? It was a giant fabricated lie courtesy of Rove and his hencemen. The only silly thing about his tactics these days is that I cannot envision the "bring em on" cowboy the victim. I guess it is worth a try to make his candidate the victim of dirty campaigning but I just can't see it.

"Karl Rove is a master at the self-inflicted dirty trick"

"self inflicted" is the key word of the day for this guy. He is about to experience his creations "personally" soon! It's in the stars.

13. Absolutely, From CBS (Raygun miniseries) to NPR (Gross v. Oreilly)
to moveon.org and all the way back to the Wellstone Funeral, the Cyber Brownshirts have enjoyed a sucessful reign of intimidation and a stunning example of The New Political Correctness.

I don;t think there is any doubt Uncle Karl is purusing his "Wategate & a Whole Lot More" program against the Democrats/

16. I forgot about the Raygun miniseries...
but you're right. That whole incident seemed scripted from the start - suddenly EVERY right wing media source starts screaming "foul" at the same time. The Wellstone funeral was the same way.

20. Rove is the master smear technician, there is NEVER any truth...
in Rove's ugly smears. YES, YES, YES... this is just the beginning of what the democrats will be facing this entire year and it'll get so unbelievably bad, you won't know up from down.

It's hit and run tactics...smear the democrat with some bullshit, the republican owned corporate media will ALWAYS rub with it...
And as always the democrat will have to waste valuable time and money defending the real truth of their position.

And it never gets through to most people...only the smear sinks in...this is nazi propaganda 101---and the nazi Karl Rove is a master at it. (and the republicans have the money to make it work and blow what they choose way out of proportion and confuse people...which of course is their intent, to confuse people.)

21. We need to make Rove the story...
Unfortunately he's learned a lot from the Willie Horton and "crucify Clinton" debacles. This "smear yourself and make it look like your opponent did it" tactic seems to work great.
