Some of our adopted soldiers may be leaving Iraq soon.. |
|
BUT.. here's the hitch..
Mary said Jimmy called them and said that he and a few others may be leaving in a month.. He thinks they will be sent back to Germany (their original posting)...and then off to afghanistan..:(
This is the shell game that the govt has in store for us, folks..
They will announce, with great fanfare, the LEAVING of troops from Iraq, and will probably not tell us that they are just being "rotated" to Afghanistan..
Mary said that the people who are sending stuff to Jimmy, might need to "change the address" after he gets settled...if they still wnat to send to him.. If you are sending a box to any on the first list, please ask them if they are being sent "home".. It would be a shame to have a box returned because they were no longer at that apo..
Apparently Afghanistan is "heating up", and I am afraid that the soldiers who are dead tired from Iraq will be unprepared to go to Afghanistan..:(
Keep us posted if you hear from your soldier.. There is a woman who will be joining their unit.. I hope to have her name by next week.. She is just starting her year rotation to Iraq>.:(

1. friend's brother-in-law just got back from Iraq |
|
arrived home over the Christmas weekend, week later sent to Virginia
He has 30 years or so in with the guards, and was going to retire, but now with the "hold" on troops leaving the service, he doesn't know if he will be allowed to retire
according to my friend, his brother-in-law has been in various wars/conflicts through out his military career, including Poppy Bush Gulf War, Kosovo/Serbia, and prior to being sent to Iraq was in Afghanistan
Iraq was the straw that broke his camel's back -- I was told that he has never seen such a "F***ed up mess" in his entire career

A friends son (special ops) was back for Christmas, left to go back to Iraq Jan 2nd.
He said the same thing about the mess. He has just gotten a new CO and said the man screwed up everyones leave time so they lost a week of their time at home over Christmas.

3. I received a nice Christmas card two days ago. |
|
Signed by DW and 5-6 others (whose names I did not recognize). It's a shame if they get sent to Afghanistan. What a crock.
As I was getting my seven-year old ready for school today, we heard on the news that another soldier was killed in Iraq. She said "I wish our heroes would get out of there. I want them to come home safe and sound". Interesting how much kids pick up, isn't it?

5. I too got a Christmas card on Tuesday from DW & the others |
|
made my day. To me that's the best Christmas card I ever got!
While glad our guys may be getting out of Iraq, I'm sorry to hear they will probably only get a brief respite and then go to Afghanistan.
I know SoCalDem will keep us informed.
