Coulter serves a very real purpose..

I believe Coulter was hired specifically to make GW seem more rational...

Imagine having an insane leftist whacko of our own on every show defining the parameters of the debate for us? Than all of the candidates could point to them and say "Hey they are insane" thereby throwing the righties a bone.

I see this working all the time on us. I've seen people on this board say "Hey, at least Matthews hammers Coulter!"....well, duh! She is a strawman.

We need to do the same.

Anyone want to be the Ann Coulter of the left?

1. I have thought the same thing - but Bush won't criticize her
Or Limbaugh. Or Savage. Rove has a chance here to have a "Sister Souljah" moment for Bush, by having him criticize this insanity - but since he wants to go even further, he won't, and can't, take her on. Millions still to be raised, you know.

he's there so Ari and Scott can be seen being dismissive of the fundies.

Why isn't there a leftist equivalent of that kook?

but that brings up the big problem -- if someone is as big a nutcase as Coulter's persona, but on the other side, they get in trouble.

6. A "Lefty Ann Coulter" could NEVER crack the ranks of Corporate TV Pravda
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 12:19 PM by tom_paine
The New Political Correctness of Imperial Amerika say quite clearly that Busheviks can be as crazed as possible, can talk like Hitler railing against the Jews, and it's no problem.

On the other hand, we wouldn't want to give those Crazy Bush Haters a public forum for their insanity, would we?

</sarcasm off>

Bottom line, thanks to the Orwellianism that is currently running rampant, a Lefty Ann Coulter would be thrown out on her ass every single time by the Gatekeepers of Pravda.

Naturally, Righty whacks such as Savage, Hannity, and Coulter are feted and get on TV whenever they wish.

If the Republic is to be restored, the Orwellianism of Imperial Bushevik Amerika MUST be exposed and stopped.

(Orwellianism, of course, seeks to forestall dissent by formenting, among other things, lunatic double-standards likle the one which allows Coulter unfettered access to damned near any megaphone she wants, but anyone saying one-tenth what she does, but about the Busheviks would be immediately fired if they already even had a job, let alone get a job from nothing )

Sure it's digusting, grotesque, and Soviet, but there you have it. Imperial Amerika in all it's Free-Market Stalinist Glory.

Will the Old American Republic ever be restored?

Coulter is a fucking nutcase. You obviously haven't been paying attention.

17. I have been paying attention.
The Democratic party, still mostly controlled by Bill and Hillary will not give Dean the nomination. They are doing all they can to bring Clark (the Clinton choice) closer or to help one of the other more main stream Washington politicians. They are doing this because they think he is too extreme to get elected.

I believe that the people from the DLC are still running the Democratic party. They are centrist enough to not want Dean to be nominated even if they thought he could win.

23. The point I am making is
that there are a huge number of folks in the democratic party who think Dean is a fringe character who cannot win the election.

When dean comments on southerners being good old boys in pick up trucks with confederate flags and that southerners need to stop voting based on guns, gays and god. When he asserts that his decision on gay unions was religion and bible based. When he says that he is unaware of Osama Bin Ladens guilt. All of these are fringe positions or, as they have also been referred to, gaffes.

25. But not lunacy of the Coulterian order
A gaffe is not the same thing as purposefully wishing people dead, imprisoned or calling an entire group traitors and nation-haters.

Which again brings us to the Bush/Hitler analogy. The similarity of their spokespersons/propagandists. Have you ever tried to rewrite an Ann Coulter column (or Hannity or Limbaugh or many of the others in the Party-Loyal Right-Wing Sub-Media) by replacing "Liberal" and "Democrat" with "Jew" and "America" with "Germany. I think you'll find the results both edifying and frightening.

A gaffe is a slip of the tongue that is politically costly. Coulter knows EXACTLY what she is saying. No slip of the tongue. Her words are delivered with deadly intent...often literally.

And, truthfully, even after Colon Foul promised to released a sanitized version of evidence aginst Bin Laden...the simple truth is that he and his Emperor never released one iota of evidence, sanitized or otherwise. The truth of the matter, the New Politikal Correctness notwithstanding is that none of us oustide the Imperial Cabal have seen actual evidence implicating Bin Laden.

Am I saying he didn't do it? Of course not. I am merely stating the fact that no evidence of any kind has ever been presented to the Amerikan Imperial Subjects regading Bin Laden's role in 9-11.

Again, Dean made a perfectly rational and truthful statment based on the evidence presented. But in the world of the New Politikal Correctness, even a mild and truthful statement as Dean's seems to be regarded by the purveyors of the New Politikal Correctness (most of whom happen to be Ann Coulter's Comrades-In-Arms, coincidentally) as equal to wild-eyed murderous ravings of Coulter.

But it just isn't so. Stop falling for Bushevik Propaganda. 1 + 1= 2 and not 3!

In all my life I have never heard Carville make blanket condemnations of Republicans as traiotrs, for one.

Actually, to find Coulter's level of insane invective, you have to go back to Father Coughlin and Josef Goebbels.

13. It Took You This Long?
One thing about that Rove machine, they've got their shit together when it comes to covering the media and spin...and have been at it for a long time.

For years the Right Wing would bitch about the "liberal media" and pledged to do something about it...and damn if they didn't do it. They started using Religious broadcasters like Robertson and the thousands of religious radio and TV stations, then moved onto talk shows and cable...seemless so that there's always been a cadre of well-schooled wignuts ready to attack or reassure.

Limbaugh was the model for the Coulters & O'Reillys and Hannities and the others coming down the pike...outrageous personalities that will galvanize the base, or even attract the fringes saying the things the "mainline party" dare not say...if they "resonate" (ratings, book sales) then the party adopts it. Listen carefully and you'll hear constant buzzwords that doesn't take a PHD to catch onto. Stan Greenberg talked about it on Washington Journal this morning.

The left wing has had a couple people who can do the same as the Coulters and Goldbergs and other RW mouthpieces...first place goes to James Carville, who still iritates the wingnuts almost as much as Hillary and doesn't care what he says or who he pisses on when he's on a roll.

15. I've been saying that for a while now
Coulter, Limbaugh, etc are out there to be SO far to the right that it makes anything to the left of them seems reasonable and compassionate.

The problem is that there are people on the left that can do that, but they do not have the anything close to the access & audience that the Reich Wingers have. (Imagine how much that story that came up a month or two back about Bush sexually abusing one of his daughters would have been pounded on by talk radio if it was Bill Clinton? Even though the story, passed off as Reuters, was laughably poorly written...)

18. She proves that cross-dressers and transsexuals can succeed in the US
She's still ranting about Franken's book. I laugh every time I hear her or a conservative go off about the Evan Thomas thing. She's always saying that he forgets to mention that Evan Thomas' grandfather was the communist, not his father. He does-he does it in an "endnote" to illustrate her own abuse of endnotes in her book. It's a joke and she and the freepers just don't get it, probably because none of them read the book and are just relying on what others are saying about it.

22. I am
a real blonde, a real intellectual, and a real liberal--the antithesis of AC! Unfortunately, I don't think I'm nasty or rude enough to serve as the AC of the left.

I do find it amusing AC got her law degree from the University of Michigan, a very liberal educational institution. Does her liberal education keep her up at night?

Finally, this is a minor request, but please let's not use any more cross-dressing/transsexual metaphors in association with something as horrid as AC. It's not fair to the transgendered community. Thank you!

24. she plays more of a role than that
She keeps the right wing wackos voting for Bush and not some fringe candidate. To win in a two party system like ours you need as many people voting for you as you can. If you have fringe commentators like Michael Savage and Anne Coulter criticizing Bush, but eventually conceding to vote for them, it will convince many out there who follow them to vote the same way.
