Ridge Admits: Color Coded System Worthless
Really...a reporter asked if "it would be correct to say" that airports and similar facilities will remain at an orange alert status. Ridge snapped back "No! I don't want people to hung up on this color thing." (my paraphrasing).

So, do we get our $37,000,000,000 back?

Actually, that's over-stating its value.

3. What would you recommend as a way
to notify the public about increased awareness? I agree the color system is no good. Any suggestions?

4. The public is already aware!
Why the heck do you need a system?

7. Always aware
How about the airport screeners, the military, the guards at nuke plants, and the guards who should be, but aren't, at chemical plants should always be aware.

It's like watching for ICBMs coming over the pole from Russia. You pretty much had to watch all the time. (And I bet they still do)

Sure that's a pain in the ass but war is war. If there's a true concern that we are vulnerable then there shouldn't be an on-off system. You're either alert or don't bother.

Ridge took credit that the system works. He said the heightened awareness helped avert a terra-strike. Why the strike couldn't have just been postponed until next week when we're not paying so much attention is beyond me. Makes no sense except as a tool to mollify the public.
