or since the alert system was created? I noticed that Ridge wished to remind us that "yellow" was still elevated. We still have to be on guard. He did say that they would not raise it to orange again unless the threat was more defined...They would not use the same parameters as in the past to raise the level. One wonders how much of this decision is political?

People told to keep the lines clear, don't want to swamp the system, causing problems for the heroic rescuers and front-liners.

6. It's always political...

Right after the information that Bush knew about 9/11 in advance broke, and several newspapers blared the headlines "BUSH KNEW", the White House raised the alert level to Tang(tm).
A WH offical, or was it an aide, even admitted that they raised it to take attention off the whole "BUSH KNEW" thing.
They'll probably raise it back to Tang(tm) in early October, and then raise it to Kool Aid(tm) sometime before the General Election.

7. My argument against the coding system is this

with their "little alerts" and their incredibly vague threats, this just gives the rethugs a chance to pat themselves on the back for the APPEARANCE of being strong on terror and defense. As long as they are scaring people, people think it is under control. Contrast that with Clinton, who WAS fighting the war on terror, successfully I might add. He did it behind the scenes and I am sure there was alot of success that went unnoticed. So next time I hear about the color code and the notion that dems are soft on terror, my response is the difference between appearance and results. There was one US (state side) terror attack under Clinton and that guy was executed. Maybe someone can refesh my memory as to what happened to the guys who attacked the navy boat. Weren't they caught to? Anyway, using fear to show you are strong on terror, doesn't mean you are strong on terror. Did I make my point?

8. Code Red situation might be interesting - Red means "DON'T LEAVE

YOUR HOME!" (likely). Also likely to happen around 11/2.

Would be interesting to see the contrast of the freepers who believe everything that this misAdministration says and the ones who got the memo saying "just kidding, please sneak out and vote for Bush - and don't forget your double-secret freeper ID badge so we know you're one of us!"
