Prediction of 107 degrees today, I’ m headed to the beach.

Surf, volleyball, bikinis (not me, them), white sand, and ---- Wait a minute I’m in OKLAHOMA we don’t have any damn beaches with surf……………Oh, groan….Anyone with a beach want a visitor today?

1. Well, Chicago will have one million people on the beach today

for the annual Air & Water Show. Of course, I can see part of the air show from my back yard and there are no crowds here. Also (ahem) decent bathroom facilities! Beer! Wine! Water! Well, okay, you can have water on Chicago beaches, but no adult beverages.

2. Get thee to a cornfield

And just bring along a boom box so you can play a "surf" recording. You'll never even notice the difference. LOL.

Me, I'm headed out into the parched wilds of northern New Mexico -- and ain't likely to run into any hot dog stands or surfers either. Sigh,

3. For those who cannot access a beach ....

TWO bananas: .. peeled and tossed into the blender ...

Chopped dates .... also in the blender ....

Three scoops of real vanilla ice cream ...

Four ice cubes ....

One jigger creme da banana ....

TWO jiggers spiced rum ....

Blend until lusciously creamy ...

Pour into chilled glass, and garnish with cinnimon stick .....

Sip slowly and enjoy ....

THIS recipe: ... sans creme da banana and spiced rum, is similar to Banana-Date chakes from the 'Date Shack' .... a now defunct stop along Pacific Coast Highway near Pirates Cove between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach ....

4. Hello from you neighbor

HOT, DRY Kansas. Even if we had a lake big enough for a beach it would be dry by now. This summer has been brutal and is getting worse. You guys doing OK? I can't get beyond what this weather is doing to Kansas, I assume it is much the same in Oklahoma. Ice, my friend.
