10. Where do you live, Skittles? |
|
Because where I'm from, in Philly, there is NOTHING BETTER than an everything bagel piled high with cream cheese, lox, cucumber, red onion, and a pinch of sea salt and fresh-ground black pepper.
Here in Virginia, they sell these things...it SAYS "bagels" on the packaging, but they aren't anything like actual bagels. I don't know who they think they're trying to fool--maybe the poor souls who've never had an ACTUAL bagel and so don't know what they're missing.
Anyway, point is, if you've had bagels from 95% of the country, you're probably right. If you've had bagels from New York, Philly, New Jersey, and you STILL don't like them---well then, there might be something wrong with you. :)

19. Make mine a poppyseed bagel similarly equipped.... |
|
And I'm in heaven.
I don't understand how bagel haters can possibly think that there are no regional differences between bagels (I've seen bagels down south I wouldn't feed to my dog), yet so many would be quick to claim that it's impossible to get decent barbeque north of the Mason Dixon. A good bagel is a beautiful thing.

Hey, there is nothing worse than a stale bagel. Tough as a Goodyear tire!
But there are some good bagels here in Dallas - of the easily accessible (ie lot's of 'em) places my first choice would be Benny's.
Now, y'all can keep the cream cheese. What kind of horrible torture to a poor bagel is that? I prefer eating them with fruit, and just a wee bit (maybe 1/2 teaspoon) of butter (butter, not hydrogenated oil) spread on carefully.
Oh, and make mine a sesame :)

8. "Better than cream cheese" |
|
is a soy-based product sold at health food stores that tastes remarkably like the original substance, but with a little more tang and a lot less GI distress. It's especially good with a thin sliver of red onion on top.
I agree. Dairy is horrible stuff when it comes out of a cow.
