A question (with no answer) |
|
Which would be worse
to be blind or to be deaf?

1. I've thought about this a lot in the past... |
|
And I would have to say that I'd rather be deaf than blind. Being deaf still allows one a tremendous amount of personal freedom. The ability to walk around alone, to grocery shop, to go to the bank, etc. Being blind is a LOT more handicapping in terms of living independently.
Of course, since music is central to my life, I would be devastated to never be able to hear it again, but deafness would be my choice.

There's so many things to see in this world. And people can always write what they want to say to you and you could learn sign language. Being deaf over being blind is the logical choice.

Andrea Bocelli is blind, but he makes beautiful music
Beethoven was deaf, and he made music that will live forever
If you were deaf, you could use sign language
but you could never listen to Beethoven
If you were blind you could hear Beethoven , but you couldn't read poetry !!

8. You could have poetry read to you by someone else |
|
And you could purchase books on audio if you were blind also.

I'd miss all the glorious music in the world, but I want to be able to see where I'm going. To see Mount Rainier on a sunny day. To see my wife's face. To see storm clouds over the Carribean. To see....

The ear is not as complicated as the eye and I think I would have a much better chance that modern science would be able to solve my problem soon.

If I had to choose one I'd take being deaf over blind. It just seems to me that blindness would be more of a limitation.
