Need Gift Suggestion for 13-Yr. Old Girl
We know nothing about girls this age and what they like. What could we get for her at Macy's?

The gift is for her confirmation. She lives in NYC.

Any suggestions?

Cher

Three book ideas:

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn and Joy In The Morning by Betty Smith, and Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell.

Good luck, Cher!

21. Brilliant. Yes, by all means - a book.
When my daughter was 13, she loved getting books as gifts. She still does, at 27. So do I. Nothing could be better. Your suggestions are excellent.

2. Not fully qualified, but...
My daughter is only 9, so my suggestions may not carry much weight. At 13, it's highly possible she'd like to get herself something. Perhaps you could get her a giftcard for some place nice. My daughter LOVES getting gift cards. Hey you could get a gift card to a bookstore then recommend the books Bertha recommended.

3. Charm bracelets are really big again.
Just got one for my daughter turning 13 last week. Jewelry of any kind goes over well. They always like gift cards for CDs or DVDs also or gift cards for the movie theater.

6. I have a 12 year old girl
I'd say a gift card for clothes or CDs or simply cash. They're darn fussy at that age. :7

7. A really nice piece of simple jewelry... Nothing too elaborate, but
trendy is great. A high-heeled sandle pendent or a heart locket... Something that doesn't look to old for a thirteen year old. Girls love it when they are given something that acknowledges that they are growing up...

9. HAHAHA
Good call. Of course if it was my daughter, I'd have to kill you just for suggesting it. But it did cause a minor coffee incident when I read it, so... :D

12. When my niece was thirteen, she loved The Limited, Too
They have all sorts of great items for preteens and young teens; cute clothes and toiletries. My niece loved the fruit-scented splashes and anything with glitter in it, especially the body sprays and lotions.

Another idea might be a subscription to Seventeen or Teen Magazine. Girls at that age are starting to become more conscience of fashion trends, and they enjoy reading and seeing what their peers are in to. These magazines also offer excellent advice on dealing with issues teens deal with. :)

Oops, wait . . . I'm thinking this is a birthday gift, LOL - sorry. A confirmation gift? Hmmmm, let's see here. . .

I'd go with the jewelry idea -- maybe something with her birthstone in it. Charm bracelets are a great idea, or maybe a heart pendent.

13. As a 15 year old guy...
I got cash from my sponsor. I do realize that gifts for girls are certainly a complicated game, but I think that cash is a good universal gift, provided you are a relative or close family friend, and it's not for an adult. Remember that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry + Elaine combine "this" with "that", and Jerry gives Elaine cash and the cheesy card?

"What're you, my uncle?"

15. Another option
If you don't want to do the gift card my 13 year old always loves beautiful journals and nifty writing implements. Sparkle and jell-pens are great!

20. Most girls that age love anything from Abercrombie
They are also into stuff from Bath and Body Works. Lip gloss and nail polish are also popular. Gift certificates to either of the above are usually welcome as well.
