Small World memories loom large among all ages (closing for one year)
Small World memories loom large among all ages

Posted May 1, 2004

There are two kinds of people in the world, a wise man once observed.

People who love It's a Small World. And people who hate It's a Small World.

There's one reason. The song.

"That song! I mean, it's this brain-slogging song that takes over your mind for about a month," said travel writer Bob Sehlinger, author of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World.

When Walt Disney World officials announced this week that It's a Small World will be closed starting Sunday for a one-year "top-to-bottom multimillion-dollar rehab," Disney fans lit up chat rooms with thoughts on the temporary shutdown.

1. Gee, thanks for reminding me...
of how old I am. I remember when it was first circulated and then permanently housed at DisneyWorld. Gadfry, it seems like yesterday to me! Oh well, I'll just go turn into dust and blow away now. :argh:

5. saw it at the New York World's Fair - 4 decades ago
... when I saw it again in Orlando in the 80s ... where it is set in a large building ... it seemed to lose some intimacy ... the NY World's Fair was in a smaller structure, i.e., building with a lower ceiling, etc. ... more 'compact' greater impact ...

that was a great world's fair btw
