"George Bush is a liberal."
I kid you not, my friend told me this last night at poker. This guy's a nutjob - he went on and on about how No Child Left Behind (which I adamately Do Not Support, which I would say is good evidence it is no "liberal" bill) is proof of Bush's "homo liberalness" and that NCLB is a plot hatched by the Democrats (which he somehow equates with the left, despite their increasingly moderate stances on everything...) to "eliminate" what he called the "intellectuals" -- of course, he included himself in said group -- for a violent military coup.

I pointed out that ever since the Raygun administration, the entire GOP has been composed almost exclusively of neo-con fascists. I did relent a little, admitting that it is somewhat harder to pin down Bush's political leanings because, after all, he's puppet to KKKarl and Cardiac Cheney's strings. I also asked him to explain how such a "liberal" bill could pass through a Congress with majority.

He responded by calling me a "pagan liberal fag" (I'm a Catholic hereto, thanks... but I am liberal :)) and that I'll "burn in Hell."

I was in shock. I did not talk to him the rest of the night, and it's obvious to me our friendship cannot continue. I am friends with people all over the spectrum, including several conservatives, who are otherwise fun and intelligent, but this guy is too much of an idiot.

2. I'm not usually a violent person...
but I think I might have smacked that ignorant SOB after being called a "pagan liberal fag".

I used to be tolerant of right-wing nut-jobs but not anymore.
I'm past being tolerant.

8. Good for you, messiertom!

More than likely, him being a freeper nutcase and all, losing his money hurt more than a slap around the ears.

3. I have a crazy friend too
Says the most racist and nutball things I have ever heard. Not a bad guy, but grossly ignorant.

I'd say you might want to avoid talking politics but I never listen to my own advice on that one.

10. He's always the one who brings it up.
One time I changed my mind on something stupid at a restaurant - if I recall correctly, it was about what drink I wanted at a restaurant - and he called me "Flip-Flip Kerry" or something. I tried to ignore him, but he kept bringing it up. So when the waitress came by with my drink, I asked, "Could you bring out a banana for my friend Chimpy here?" pointing to him. That pretty much shut him up.

12. Chimpy! Ha! Good one
Yeah, mine antagonizes me. I've worked as a columnist and have been political all my life, so I routinely hammer him, but he keeps coming back for more. I try to not bring stuff up but the guy will call me and start saying stupid stuff about abortion, Iraq etc. Sometimes I wander how I can even be friends with him, haha.

4. Sometimes you have to cut your losses and go
...and sometimes you have to cut somebody some slack. How much had he been drinking? There's nothing like alcohol to fuel belligerent bombast of that sort.

If he was drinking, try talking to him once when he is sober. If you get the same line of garbage, it may be time to look elsewhere for companions. If you get something approaching reason, give him another chance.

Just a thought. After all, we want to reach the reachable, teach the teachable.

7. Not drinking. We're all under 21
This guy's been my friend for about seven or eight years. He used to be a decent guy, but ever since about 2000 he's turned full right-wing nut job on me. Our friendship has faded ever since, and now it's over. Last time he ever shows up at one of my poker nights.

11. This reminds me of something funny
The other day I was listening to the radio, and was catching the end of a local morning show. When a very old lady, had to be old judging by her voice, called in and stated that Bush is the greatest president she has ever seen. She stated he had done so much for old liberal ladies like herself. Then towards the end of her rambling she sated that there is no way she would vote for that right winger Kerry. The hosts of the show did all they could to keep form busting out on the floor laughing. What can I say just odd.
