How many of my fellow DUers judge people on the contents of their grocery carts? I was standing in front of a lady at Cub today and the ONLY thing she had in her cart that wasn't processed was a cumcumber. And I admit I was standing there judging her abit. Does that make me a fancy pants elitist or a judgemental jerk?

I was constantly judged at the store whenever I used my food stamps. People would be blatantly peering into my cart and giving me looks if they didn't like what they saw. Like I was supposed to eat bean sprouts and tofu all the damned time!!!!
It's been years since I've been on food stamps and I still remember that like it was yesterday. It was so humiliating!!!
My point? Who the fuck cares what someone else gets in their cart? It's no one else's business but theirs, and you don't know the circumstances of the purchases anyway!!!!

lighten up. Im being tongue in cheek. If you have some past shame about being on food stamps don't throw it on me. I didn't mention food stamps and wasn't implying anything about people on food stamps. That is a huge and absurd leap of logic to assume I was, and to lump me in with the people that "glared" at you is unfair and just mean spirited. More then anything Im poking fun at me then anyone else...

I just had to live for two months with no kitchen -- just a microwave and mini-fridge. I had to live on processed foods for the most part. I hope people didn't judge me to harshly.
I will say that it is nice to enjoys fresh vegetables and meat again now that I have a kitchen again.

3. So yesterday I went to the grocery store |
|
Edited on Sat May-01-04 01:52 PM by SarahBelle
Among my small list of items included a bag of 9 cucumbers and two packages of hot dogs. Darn, no orgies either. :(
Actually, I tend to judge people just a little who have all crap (cookies, crackers, cereal, ice cream) and absolutely NO produce. We need our fruits and veggies. Not that hot dogs are perfect either, but at least they were kosher. :7

4. not necessarily by grocery carts... |
|
Edited on Sat May-01-04 01:54 PM by LastKnight
but by what people buy in general... i work at a music store... ive seen people walk out with armfuls of country music and a pack of banjo strings, i look outside, and usuially thier car(in most cases SUVs or pickup truck) is plastered with bush/cheney stickers...
i know im making generalizations... but still. it goes both ways. ive seen people walk out with a System of a Down guitar book and what do i see on thier car? a dean sticker...
so i dont get to the grocery store alot, my parents take care of that. but i do end up judging people by the contents of their shopping bags.
i know i shouldnt, but blah blah blah... i havent been wrong yet. but around here your usuially an extreame of either side.

just most people that listen to it are right wingers.
alot of retired people, about evenly split ask for the Johnny Cash...
and its the middle age stoners, and ex-hippies (who often look like willie) who ask for him. these are mostly left leaning, but now and then a few righties look for him *probably* because of his link to toby keith.
south dakota is a very bumper-sticker happy place, for some reason. it just seems most people make thier political staments on thier cars and tend to not talk about it cause its so polarized around here. cutting somone off and giving them the finger (as happend to me twice this week) is easier than debating it seems.

was when the obviously pregnant woman in front of me had the clerk get her some cigarettes and a pack of strawberry blunts. I couldn't believe it. Maybe it was for someone else, but I highly doubt it.

because they are about the equivalent of blunts.
It was a female brand too. I can't be 100% sure but between blunts and virginia slim I was suspicious

:hi: No worries. Like I said, food does not make the person. It's not worth even looking at...much less judging in my book.
