1. Firing Wannstedt won't solve 'Fins problems |
|
The problem is general management.
They decided to stick with Fieder in 2002, which was a big mistake.
I've been saying for years, 'Fins won't be successful as long as Fieder is starting.
Wannstedt doesn't make personnel decisions, and no GM will let a coach sit a quarterback who's making millions a year.
'Fins fan since inception, 1966.

3. Nonsense.... Wanny was the Coach, GM for the last 4 seasons |
|
This is the first year he is not... BTW: You do know who replaced Wanny as GM don't you? It's Rick Spielman, the guy Wanny hired from his Chicago Bear days... Now if you were a die hard Phin fan you would have known that.

Good luck on your quest.

But then again you did state that the Coach is not the GM when in fact he was... I'm glad I corrected you.

I thought he had turned over the GM duties during his second year as coach.
The concept of time seems to become flexible the older you get.

2. As a long time Patriots fan..... |
|
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAAHAHA!
Okay, I'm kidding. But in all seriousness, I think the Dolphin's problems are very similar to the Broncos' problems: They need to undergo a wholesale rebuilding process. Switching out one or two parts at a time will only keep the team mediocre. If you want to build a legit championship caliber team, you have to build from the ground up with key draft picks, clear out cap room to sign a few free agents to build around, and quite simply, start over. Take a look at the recent Super Bowl champs. The Patriots, Ravens, Rams, and Bucs all underwent major rebuilding before their championship runs. It's been 5 years since a team that didn't bottom out in the near past won the Super Bowl (98-99). Going even before that though, you have the Dallas Cowboys who bottomed out before they drafted Aikman, Smith, and Irvin, and Green Bay.

They have no clue how to build a champion. How about TRYING to get a descent defense.
And Ricky Williams???

so say whatever you want about him. The whole running back position is waaaay overrated in football anyway.
How far have the Chiefs and Dolphins gotten in the playoffs the last few years?

The undefeated Phins in the seventies had a power running game that won games, Marcus Allen, John Riggins, Franco Harris, and on and on and on.... The Phins don't get anywhere because of coaching and their QB...The Chiefs have a shit defense.
Now take a team like the Pat's who are well balanced and who have now added a stud runner in Corey Dillon...the rest of the division is in deep shit.

10. I gotta agree about the Dolphins |
|
I'm happy that they drafted an OL in Vernon Carey, but that doesn't solve all our problems. We traded a 2nd Round pick for Feely. That means we better damn well get production out of him. A 2nd round draft pick should be a starter in this league, not some second stringer.
I'm real sick of the lack of accountability within the organization. Remember a few months ago when Huizenga blamed Mare for missing the playoffs? He didn't blame the coach who didn't have the team prepared for the Titans. He didn't bitch about losing to a 2nd year team in the home opener. I was honestly shocked that he retained Wannstedt, and even more dismayed that he got a two year extension.
The team still has a lot of holes. The OL might be marginally better, but we got rid of our best OT in Todd Wade. The free agent signing we got probably won't be available for the first few games. QB is a mess as always. Boston has a lot of talent, but I feel he's been an underachiever. Ricky's great, but he'll keep rushing for 3 yards a carry if the line doesn't help. Eventually he's going to get hurt from taking all the punishment.
The one good thing I can say about Wanny/Spielman is that they got rid of Jamar Fletcher. That guy's almost as bad as Jerry Wilson.

being associated with Jimmy Johnson and the Cowboys winning years with Aikman et al, what has Wanny really done? He stunk up the place in Chicago. On merit alone he should be selling used cars somewhere, not coaching. Is the NFL that devoid of coaching talent that they have to keep a poseur like Davy around, or bring Joe Gibbs out of retirement?
