I'm glad a national TV audience was able to see the Texas Rangers |
|
last night. This is a young, hard working team that everyone should be pulling for. Many sports folks around the country, and especially here in the metroplex, were predicting a triple digit loss record. I was thinking more in terms of 99. But here they are, young and stupid, pitching beyond expectations, and the young hitters are showing their stuff.
The Rangers should be the team everyone is talking about at this moment. Their youth and inexperience will probably come back to haunt them at crunch time, but remember that this is being considered a rebuilding season. They are fun to watch, and if you are out of the DFW market, you might want to check them out on the Dish or Direct TV season ticket.
If you think they may not be for real, you might want to ask the Red Sox. The brooms were out in Arlington last night.

1. Pitching was surprisingly good. |
|
Based on what he did to my Red Sox last night, I just picked up R.A. Dickey for my fantasy team this morning.
Pitching has always been Texas' shortcoming. If they've got that fixed, then Oakland better watch their back.

2. Yes, and I believe the pitching will still be their shortcoming |
|
I know things are going to start changing after awhile, but this has been fun watching these youngsters play so hard.

4. Yes, and Tom Hicks was trying to follow their lead |

Trading A-Rod and going with the kids are the best things he could have done.

7. I'd leave the Braves out of it. |
|
When Cubs fans outnumber your own fans at a HOME PLAYOFF GAME, you deserve to be ineligible for the postseason.
I came up with it years ago. I call it the "Atlanta Braves Rule." Any team who fails to sellout a home playoff game should automatically forfeit the game.
Red Sox and Cubs fans would sell their first-born children to see a home playoff game, and these apathetic Braves fans can walk up to a window and get same-day tickets? I have a fundamental problem with this.
ATLANTA. WORST. SPORTS-TOWN. EVER.

5. I would like very, very much to be able to pull for the Rangers all season |
|
The only problem is that I am a lifelong Angels' fan. O8) But I've always followed the Rangers and hoped for their success; this year will be no different. As long as it doesn't come down to the wire between the two teams. ;)

11. I know how the A's always close so well, but I think the Angels |
|
will probably win the west this year. I loved their free agent aquisitions, and I believe that will put them over the top (love Anderson and Vlade. What a combination).

9. It'd be funnier than hell.. |
|
..to see Texas do well all season, particularly after dumping the $25 million dollar man. Baseball needs to learn that even good players shouldn't be pulling in that kind of money. Let the friggin' players strike if they want: nobody deserves $25 million a year for anything short of discovering the cure for cancer or inventing a better microwave popcorn.

13. "Inventing better microwave popcorn." You win! |
|
Great line!!! I think the guy who invented the Twinkee should also receive some sort of recognition in that regard!

10. I watched some of last night's game. |
|
Very impressive preformance by Dickey.
That's a pretty impressive young team. If their arms hold up, maybe they can make a run like the Royals did last year.
