AA Ads: Are OnStar people idiots?
Locked keys in car
Locked dog in car
Locked baby in car

Morans?

Evil idea: On 11/2 some hacker takes over Onstar and locks out all the Onstar people from their cars: 2 Million less votes for Bush!

1. I know someone whose dog once locked the car
while it was alone inside. The car was also running with the A/C on and started to overheat. Unfortunately, she didn't have onstar.

2. I think we all have those kinds of stories
I recall getting out of a car to access a poorly designed driveup bank teller window and my car door closed accidentally - locked. So there I am with a running, locked car blocking the bank drive up lane...

I just find it funny when advertisers basically say "the people who use are products are idiots but we love them anyway".

11. I was pulled over for a tail light or something
I've forgotten exactly what. But I had to get out of the car and get in the highway patrolman's car with him. By habit I hit the electric door locks as I closed my door, but for some reason I had left the keys in the ignition! That was embarassing. And although I was only a mile or two from my home, he couldn't take me home to get a spare set of keys. He could, however, take me to the next exit so I could phone home and get my dad to bring the keys, take me back to my car, and then wait for my dad to show up. Jerk!

3. I actually like the approach they use
and the technology is interesting. I like the idea that without too much effort I can call someone and get help. Just me I guess, but I've done the ask a hundred strangers for a coat hanger to pop the lock.

4. I like the use of the technology
but it seems to be pretty pricey, for the likelihood that you would ever use it. I haven't ever (knock on wood)locked myself out of the car. I have never run out of gas. I generally have a map in the car, and use online mapping/direction services. I have towing/disablement coverage with my car insurance.

I would be hard pressed to justify buying the product and the ongoing subscription.

Just my $.02

5. The baby one annoys me the most
If my baby was choking on the seatbelt, I don't think I would be wasting precious time phoning On-Star, getting through to an operator, frantically giving them my account number, with the risk of me not being decipherable to the On-Star person and then waiting for them to activate the locks on the car.

No, I think if my baby was choking to death inside of a locked car, the first thing thing I would do is go to the window farthest from the child and smash it.

Wouldn't you?

7. Depends...
A Democrat would smash the window
A Republican would first figure out if smashing the window intentionally is insured or not.

8. "My car is on fire. Can you put it out?"
I wonder how many they get like that.

12. I don't know if they still are this way but...
On my old VW you could only lock the drivers side door with the key. We always have to go way overboard on everything in this country.
