Peanuts Found Under Mattress Of Allergic Female Firefighter

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Police in Palm Beach Gardens are investigating the discovery of shelled peanuts under the mattress of a female firefighter who says she is allergic to peanuts.

The peanuts were discovered this past weekend under the dorm-room mattress that the firefighter shared with fire-rescue workers from other shifts. Investigators say it's potentially serious, since inhaling small amounts of peanut particles can cause a severe allergic reaction and even death.

Authorities say they're not yet sure if someone was teasing the female firefighter, harassing her, or if the peanuts were put there by accident. The complaint has been forwarded to police, who will determine whether it is a criminal or administrative case.

3. A peanut war

My brother and I were at home one day and I threw a peanut at him. He threw one at me. This continued for a brief period until my brother went to the kitchen and returned with a big bowl and kept heaving them at me. I got my own sack and a peanut war had begun with us running all over the house pelting each other with peanuts (these were in the shell). Finally, we were out of peanuts and we realized that our parents would be coming home in a few hours. So we cleaned up the remenants, vaccumed and didn't get caught. A couple weeks later my mom commented on finding a few peanuts behind a picture frame and a couple on top of some books on a shelf, but she never knew of the mess that had been.
