1. Viewsonic
has always had the most bang for the buck IMO.

2. Not "cheap," but I'd recommend Viewsonic.
A monitor is like a mattress: a good one will last you for years, will have lower per-month cost (in the long term), and your body (specifically your eyes) will thank you.

I'm running an A90 19" that has been in more or less continual-use mode for 4 years.

3. Watch the auctions
...at http://www.ubid.com

You can get reconditioned computer equipment there for less than half what the cheapest retail would cost.

I'm using a $300 computer with an AMD 2000+ CPU, on a $120 LCD monitor to process the pics I take with my $160 4-megapixel Minolta camera.

I've never gotten burned by these folks. I recommend them highly.

4. Bought a ViewSonic P95f+B
Two months ago, and I think that it was the best choice possible for the money. Love the extra bright "Gaming/Graphics" mode. $225.00 (Orange County area). I used to be in computer hardware and ViewSonic was a great buy back then. The next step up are NEC, and Sony's but expect to pay at least 30% more.

5. Looking at my beautiful 19" Viewsonic right now....
agree with all the above comments on the brand.... I would check at Staples because their prices are as good as anyone's (and "guaranteed") and they have frequent rebate deals. I would be leery of buying a reconditioned unit.... or anything off the 'Net unless it comes with free or very cheap shipping.

6. Check for "surplus" centers
My wife picked up a 19" Dell for $5 @ the UC Davis clearance center.
