Republican musicians.....but you like their music
I grew up listening to Ted Nugent. I never knew he was a conservative or a hunter. I'm a leftist vegetarian! However, i do still love his old 70's albums. Anyone else have a love hate attitude with a repug musician?

1. Dave Smalley of Dag Nasty/ All /Down By Law....
May not be familiar to most on here if you're not familiar with the punk/hardcore scene but he's been in some classic catchy punk bands with a good deal of social conscience.

Lately he's taken to posting on-line articles about being a conservative in the punk scene. They are made all the more pathetic by the fact that he attempts to make it sound cool, like being a punk and conservative makes you a "gonzo conservative" as he calls it.

Pathetic.

....another f*cking poseur.

Conservative punk is a bigger oxymoron than compassionate conservative.

2. No hate.
He could have been a real force for good but he went nuts and lost any respect I had for him. Sad.

4. A real force for good?
I'll admit to loving some of Nuge's work, but he was always a loud mouthed, mysoginistic creep who liked girls waaaaaaaayyyy too young for him (and the law). What kind of "force for good" would become a girls legal guardian so he could sleep with her?

Are you freaking KIDDING ME?! Please say yes.

I mean... I seriously despise this guy and find his music beyond revolting, and didn't think I could ever dislike him more, but... this may actually do the trick!!

34. tis true
happened in the 70's. Ted legally adopted a girl (or became her legal guardian or whatever), to circumvent the legal age issue. yuck.

as a right winger. Sorry about that. I still love his work with the Doobies and Steely Dan, however.

14. I think Joey was pretty liberal.....
He did after all write "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg", which in addition to being my favorite Ramones tune, was also apparently a huge point of contention between him and Johnny.

19. Right, the rest of them were liberal, or indifferent..
But Johnny is a big-time repug....and since Joey & Dee Dee are now dead, I think he has controlling interest in the group...which means he's been whoring them out to commercials.

He's sure not the same person who did "Uneasy Rider", and I disagree with about 101% of what he says/writes these days, but he can still play the fiddle, and at least he isn't afraid to speak his mind and be amusing.

25. I personally don't care...
what politics a musician prefers unless he/she is very outspoken. Some articts are obviously very political, but many are not and are very private about it. They have their rights to believe in what they believe and I won't let it affect how I judge their music.

I take the same approach with all my friends, though most tend to be liberal.

I also think it's sad that the RW extremists are doing the same thing.
