OK - just found a DVD that I rented from Blockbuster, months ago |
|
Edited on Sat May-08-04 12:48 AM by nu_duer
I returned the case, and I thought the DVD was in it, but it evidently wasn't. There hasn't been any contact from BB to me, and I've rented there since and this was never mentioned.
If I keep it, then I'm actually stealing and I like to think I'm above that sort of thing - barring survival, of course.
BUT, if I return it now, there is a chance Blockbuster, a money hungry entity if I've ever seen one - imho, would try to charge me late fees, which by now must be outrageous. And they have my credit card info.
What would you do?
Oh, the DVD is 28 Days Later, fwiw.

them to check your account because you don't remember if you returned everything you may have rented a while ago.
If they say you're ok, then go in and return it any way you want.
if they say you owe the DVD in question, then take care of it. BUT, I would think that because they didn't catch it right away and did not send you a notice - and YOU are bringing it to their attention they should not charge a late fee... well if they want to keep customers at least.
good luck

3. It was the store's error too |
|
The store didn't seem to notice the lack of DVD disc.
Of course, maybe there was another disc in the box.

2. just drop it in the night drop as is... |
|
or next time you rent put it in the case with the other one you return, or something
either way they will find it. if you drop it in as is it has the possability of being broken sure, but not likley, the things dropped in there dont hit very hard, so even if something lands on it it probably wont break unless it hits it weird.
i donno, those are my ideas. probably not the best ideas, but either way its better than stealing.

Presumably there's a box on the shelf that doesn't have a dvd in it, so just go back to the store, look for the movie, and open each box until you find the empty one. If there is no empty, no problem.
I would be stealing to keep it, but I am convinced blockbuster will charge you no matter what, which in my mind would be a bigger wrong, so fuck 'em.

7. just take it back next time |
|
you're going that way. Tell 'em the truth. You can point out that in however-long-you've-had-it they haven't been assessing late-fees, so they ought not have a right to at this point. Besides, they possibly couldn't even check back to see when you rented it, to do the assessing.
If they make an issue of it, just leave without paying, and don't go back. They probably wouldn't bother with going after the money via your credit card.
BlockBuster is a giant, the people who work for them are normal people.
