Every now and then I get a blue screen that pops up and says I have a virus detected. It says my computer has detected a "sasserd_worm" or something like that.
Now I know a Sasser d Worm or whatever has been going around, but I don't know if this pop up is actually from my computer, or if it's just some random pop-up on the web trying to fake me out.
Do you guys know what it is? What should I do?

It's rather hard to tell from the description.
Can you send a picture of it when it happens (hit print screen, then go to MS Paint and click paste).
Can you Alt-Tab to a different window when the blue screen comes up?
Does the blue screen come up only when you visit certain web sites?

I'll try.

I'm not sure. I will try.

No, it pretty much pops up periodically at random times. But the bar at the top of the pop up looks like the top of my browser.

2. If that's happening while you are surfing, then it's likely a pop-up ad... |

if it's an internet explorer window you have nothing to worry about, but do the steps listed in the post below anyway

go to "tools" on the top of the internet explorer and then go to "windows update". That will take to you the windows update at microsoft's website. Do the updates. Then restart. Then go to www.antivirus.com and run the free virus scan they have there. That should do it. If you have problems feel free to email me (morpheus_942@yahoo.com) or IM me on AIM at morpheus942ap. Good luck!
Edit: that's the solution if you have the sassor virus which attacks through a weakness in windows (a hole that will be patched up at the windows update site). If it turns out to be spyware just go to download.com and download ad-aware 6.0 and install that. Then update that and run it. That takes care of spwyare like it's nobody's business.
