3. Technically great, story line weak, music was awful |
|
Crowe's character was a complete anachronism for a sea captain of the time. And the music--if they can't afford John Williams, where's John Debney? Somehow the score ended up a three-composer mishmash of mediocrity (apart from the beautiful and always haunting Fantasia by Vaughn Williams, which filled in several times whenever real music was required).
And Vaughn Williams not even credited until the 8th minute of titles. Most will think the three hacks were capable of writing it. Ugh.

4. What about the Boccerini(sp?) piece... |
|
At least that piece is true to the books.
The film was OK, but I'd rather wait for the BBC to do the entire series of books form Master and Commander to Blue at the Mizzen.
Chris Barrie would make a perect Lord Clonfertt in The Mauritius Campaign.

5. Another great piece of music |
|
but oddly placed in the film.
If a director is going to do an epic sea adventure, he had better familiarize himself with The Sea Hawk. Eric Korngold's score to that film set the standard for music in that genre. Cutting and pasting won't do.
Is BBC going to produce the whole series?

6. Oh, I hope they do.... |
|
It would stand a better chance of doing the books justice.
