This article says Secret Service said it landed near the motorcade: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/inaug/2001-01-20-approtests.htmThough it was in USA Today, it's by the good ol' boring AP, so comparatively reliable.

me it actually hit the limo when it was stopped (when th epresident usually gets out and walks the last 4 or 5 blocks) and the limo just sped down to the white house. I could be wrong, though.

protesting the inauguration... I heard that it was more than one egg. I didn't see it personally, because the hordes of protestors were held back by police from getting near the procession. I made my way through alleys where I ended up at the end of the route after the usurper had already passed, and found myself among a bunch of texas women in fur coats in absolute rapture over their messiah. Ah, the dirty looks and words I got from them... was a fine experience to rain on their parade.
