This article says Secret Service said it landed near the motorcade: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/inaug/2001-01-20-approtests.htm
Though it was in USA Today, it's by the good ol' boring AP, so comparatively reliable.

4. I remember friends telling
me it actually hit the limo when it was stopped (when th epresident usually gets out and walks the last 4 or 5 blocks) and the limo just sped down to the white house. I could be wrong, though.

10. I was there...
protesting the inauguration... I heard that it was more than one egg. I didn't see it personally, because the hordes of protestors were held back by police from getting near the procession. I made my way through alleys where I ended up at the end of the route after the usurper had already passed, and found myself among a bunch of texas women in fur coats in absolute rapture over their messiah. Ah, the dirty looks and words I got from them... was a fine experience to rain on their parade.
