Need good wishes, karma, prayers
Edited on Mon May-10-04 02:48 PM by supernova
whatever you send out into the universe.

I just got back from an interview for a tech writing job. I hope it went well. I hope I get it. He seemed OK, but he did ask if I had kids?!? I thought that stuff was illegal. He's married, btw.

But he asked me all the standard questions and I gave all the standard answers. Showed him samples from my portfolio. Supposed to be a decision next week.

I'll see. I would love to start working again. I feel like all this time I've been out of work I could have 1) had a baby or adopted one 2) written a novel, 3) scaled Mt Everest.

I really want this job.

3. Good luck!
And, yes, I believe it is illegal to ask if you have children, or are married in a job interview. I guess that means they want to work you like a slave, and don't want those pesky rugrats getting in the way. :D

5. I wasn't really sure
why he was asking me that (appeared to me around my age). If it was just a "who are you" type of question or if he was fishing for something more.

6. Good luck!
I hope you get the offer!

Yes, asking if you have kids is an illegal question. It's hard to believe that interviewers don't know this by now.

11. Thanks, livetohike
I think I was taken aback by it. I haven't had that type of question in an interview since the mid-80s.

12. Same here
and I was asked "What does your husband think about you working?"

I said, "About the same as I think about him working." Then I smiled a big smile. I got the job, btw.

10. I'm in RTP, NC
the tech market is still a little sucky here. Activity is picking up very slowly.

What does your company do?
