Have you ever auditioned for a reality TV show? |
|
I'm going to audition for Survivor. In addition to submitting an application, I have to make a three minute audition video. Any advice?

;) But that sounds cool. I have to confess though, I've not seen "The Dream Team." How'd you manage to get a script accepted? What was it about?

2. Stand out(in the video) |
|
That is one of the main reasons they will pick you. Show everyone you have a personality which people at home will enjoy watching.

4. I did for "Dream Job" on ESPN |
|
Just be yourself. Try to make some jokes. They're looking for a certain look and a certain voice.
Also, Don't be shy, if something needs to be said then say it.
It was fun to do. I got a little nervous with the photographer following me around snapping pictures but that was about it.

How far did you get in the process? Can you tell me more about what it was like; who you met; what they asked, etc?

8. Just the first audition |
|
There were three phases. The first phase was standing in line to get in and filling out the application. The application process wanted you to answer questions about your life and if you had done anything outrageous. They let people in in groups of 10 and you sat at a table inside waiting for the prior group to come out.
The next phase they sent your group in a room to take a sports quiz. The producers came in and explained the concept of the show and what they wanted to see which was sort of what you see when the anchors are talking to each other on SportsCenter. They left us alone in the room for a few minutes to start conversations with each other. A big sign hung on the side saying that by entering you were saying it was ok for your image to be used by ESPN in any way they wanted. Much like the disclaimer for the DU gallery that your image would be available to the public. Then they gave us the quiz and it was 30 questions of trivia in various sports.
In the next phase we entered another room together and stood around a table where another two members of the production team asked us our opinions of the various goings-on in the sports world and we had to do some play-by-play of our favorite sports moments. They gave us 10 seconds to come up with it. At this stage was where you had to jump in to the conversation because everybody was talking over each other.
It was at that stage that the photographer came up to me and asked me for my name and hometown. I figured she was from out of town because she didn't know where my hometown was. There were cameras filming everywhere around us. The photographer was shooting pics at our table and when the process was over started following me and two others I was walking with and we broke up and she followed me out the door taking pictures. I never did find out whether I got on TV or where my picture ended up.
If you got past the first stage you got a phone call after 3 weeks saying they wanted you to travel to Bristol, CT at thier expense and stay there for a year at there expense traveling on assignments and like all reality shows you had to be ok with them filming you 24/7.
I liked it. I thought it was a good experience and had alot of fun there.

and interesting and funny, but most of all... be attractive.
If you are not presently attractive, endeavor to become attractive before you make your video. I'm not kidding; these people are all about selling soda pop and beer and incredibly ugly cars; they are looking for attractive people to adorn their hour-long commercials.
And don't flame me for speaking truth; I am a Survivor addict.
I was on two game shows in the 80's, and the fact that I could speak in complete sentences AND wear Marine Corps dress blues is what got me on these shows; I wouldn't stand a chance today; I am unattractive.
