Mine was today, in the form of a memo: the firm is giving us staff our first bonus in 14 1/2 years.

1. About two weeks ago

My girlfriend came back after having suffered the trauma of having her ex-fiancee, who had left her for dead pretty much at the altar, showing up at her doorstep. She wasn't ever going back to him, but it fucked her up emotionally pretty badly. We had only been dating a few weeks at the time and she didn't feel ready to continue a committed relationship after that, nor did she feel like it was the right thing to do to drag me through that mess (much to my protest). She's still not completely ready, and it still may yet not work out between us because of this issue, but I didn't expect anything at all and was very pleasantly shocked.

4. Got the condo

Two weeks ago - I got the condo and didn't have to go up in price. In this Northern Virginia market that's practically unheard of.

5. Last night. My best friend isn't moving!

He had a dream, looked into pursuing it, the reality of it wasn't what he wanted so he changed his mind. Yay.

Just meant they're the only companies that can afford to give bonuses nowadays.

11. Actually, I work for a law firm -- one with its fingers in the Iraqi pie

just like all the other big lobbying firms in DC. The firm that employs me is extremely -- god, inordinately -- proud of its status as the new # 1 lobbying firm in DC. And they do a lot of govt & contractor work, and there are billions of fingers in millions of rebuilding-Iraq pies. :puke:

But I'll take the bonus and I am quite grateful. Word has spread among the staff that this is the Cicada Bonus. It ain't gonna happen again for another 17 years.

PS if I'd gotten the chip off my shoulder earlier I'd've realized you were making a joke. I should've lightened up. :)

9. Monday..

Whaen I found out that Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton was going to be the guest speaker at my commencment.

10. When they called me to tell me I got this job.

January of 2003. Then on the same day, I won two tickets to see
David Gray in concert.

13. Today...

got a call for an interview tomorrow. She said she saw my resume on Monster, and thought it would be a good match. The upshot of all this is I drive to Taylor MI for the interview. I didn't think anything could trump getting my star yesterday, but now this!

our share was over $5k.

I got accepted to graduate school.

I start work on my MSW in the fall. :-)
