Family Dog Shot By Sniper (Upset Over Dog Poop)
<snip>

SCOTTSDALE - When Laura Middleton came home from work last Friday, she found her dog, Bomber, lying on her bed, whimpering.

Then she saw the hole in his left side, torn open by a pellet gun, she said.

Middleton, 22, and other residents at the Casita Real condos at Indian School and Granite Reef roads were papered with fliers last week signed by someone claiming to be "the sniper" and warning them that their dogs would be killed if their waste wasn't cleaned up.

"First you just freak out and get a little hysterical," said Middleton, a waitress. Eventually, she took the dog to a veterinarian, and Bomber is recovering from his wound.

Police are investigating the shooting and the flier distribution, said Detective Sam Bailey of the Scottsdale Police Department. The Middleton files weren't immediately available, he said.

2. What a moron.
It's not the dog's fault...he needs to deal with the owners who don't clean up after them. (Note: this is NOT me saying "shoot the owners instead")

7. Direct confontation with the owner would take a certain moral courage.
People who shoot dogs that are not physically threatening are moral cowards.

One would hope the neighborhood exposes the coward and keeps a close eye on them. And makes it know they are keeping watch.

3. My neighbor's dog shat on my lawn once.
I picked up the dung with a shovel and flung it at my neighbor's house. It stuck to their siding about 15 feet up. I wonder if they ever figured out how the dog crapped that high up.

6. I am not condoning violence against animals, but...
people with dogs need to be more considerate of their neighbors. Prior to getting a dog, I would frequently find dog crap in my yard. That really pisses me off. Now that I have one of my own, I clean up her messes. I try hard to get her to go at home, before we go for a walk, but she sometimes has to go DURING the walk. For those cases, I carry bags so I can pick it up and dispose of it properly. It's not pleasant, but I'd rather do that than leave it in someone else's yard.

I feel for Ms. Middleton and Bomber, and I think the perpetrator should be locked up. But maybe this will teach her to not let the dog crap in other people's yards.

12. Easiest Way

to pick up poop, dead simple and fast and clean!

Take a sandwich baggie or other small plastic bag with you on the walk. When Phaedeaux does his thang, you slip the bag over your hand, like a mitten, and pick up the poop directly from the ground.

Then, just grab the top of the bag on your wrist, invert and Hey, PRESTO! Poop inside bag, and tie off and dump in trash.

Easy Peasey... well.. poopsie...

13. You got it!
I have one of those bag dispensers that clips on to the leash. I don't even think about it most of the time, but if Dusty poops in someone else's yard during a walk, I've got just what I need.

8. Can't blame the guy for being upset
but don't be shooting the dogs.

Be servin' papers on the owners.

Or spend a week picking up the poop and putting it on the doorknobs of the neighbors' houses.

14. Shoot the owner not the dog!
It's not the dog's fault they have an irresponsible owner! God I hate that. I saw this story last night on my local news. It's so typical of Arizona mentality toward animals too - if it has 4 legs, shoot it.

I found it interesting that in the interview with the woman who's dog was shot, they never asked her if she picked up her dog's crap. Not that it would justify it in any way but I was wondering if she even had a clue that this was something she should be doing.

19. Oh yeah!
D'oh! I can never remember who I've told!

I dunno about a dog. I like running away for the weekend and/or staying out late without coming home from work. If I get furballs, most likely they'll be cats.

20. Well at least you've thought about it
some people get a dog regardless of their lifestyle and it sucks for the dog, who mainly lives for your company.

Cats are o.k. I guess ;-) .

21. Exactly.
Plus the dog would have to be smallish, as the yard isn't all that big. Not much room to run and play.

25. Sick bastard
Everyone knows the appropriate response to dogs crapping in your yard is to remove the offending waste and place it on the front porch of the dog owner, with a note requesting that they do their own waste patrol in future. Or put little signs in the dog poop stating whose unleashed dog left which pile.

The more you embarrass the idiot dog owner, the more likely they'll take responsibility for their pet in future. Penalizing the dog is idiotic. The dog just knows he's supposed to shit outside - he doesn't know where the property line is.

27. One of my neighbors does this
He puts little flags in the areas where the dog did his business. The owner then comes and cleans up. No violence, everyone is happy.

26. I'm no fan of dog poop, and those that just leave it should pay fines
But shooting a Dog over this sort of thing is just sick and the shooter is probably not too far away from shooting people that annoy him.
