Portland DJ's Fired For Laughing At Berg Beheading
<snip>

PORTLAND - The radio station KNRK at 94.7 FM is issuing an apology to its listeners after talk show hosts Marconi, Tiny and sidekick Nickie J. laughed at and ridiculed the beheading of American Nick Berg.

The three were fired Thursday afternoon, after airing the audio recording of Berg's murder repeatedly on Wednesday and laughing at the incident.

"Disgusting… I'm speechless," said one woman.

1. I am a staunch defender of Free Speech...
... but as God is my witness, I don't know how I feel about this.

4. It's not an issue of free speech
A radio station has every right to decide what it will and will not broadcast, and to fire those who violate its standards.

6. It reminds me of the old analogy of yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater.
I guess free speech does have its limitations in some cases. Although I would dread the BFEE taking advantage any more than they already have.

9. It's not a question of 'free speech'.
The DJ's are free to say whatever they want, but the radio station is also free to fire them.

90% of Americans, myself included, would fine laughing at this vile and repulsive. For the radio station to continue employing these morons would've been a slap in the face to 90% of their listeners.

It's as bad as Howard Stern's musing about why the Columbine gunmen weren't raping their victims before killing them, while the Columbine killings were happening.

13. They still have free speech
they're free to say whatever dumbass sick shit they want on their own time. They're not free to violate their employer's standards of conduct, any more than any of us are. They can SAY whatever they like; the station has no requirement to broadcast it. The right to free speech does not come with a guarantee of airtime.

2. Wow...that's not even political, that's just sick.
What exactly were they finding funny about that? I can't imagine how that incident would look funny to you no matter what your political persuasion was.

Brr,

"Nicholas Berg died for the sins of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld,"

PHILADELPHIA - (KRT) - The day he buried his son, Nick Berg's father angrily lashed out at President Bush - and said he had a question for him:

"I would like to ask him if it's true that al-Qaeda offered to trade my son's life for another person," Michael Berg told a small group of reporters early Thursday morning outside his West Chester home.

"And if that is true, well, I need that information," said Berg, a self-proclaimed peace activist who has marched against the Iraq war. "I think that the people of the United States of America need to know what the fate of their sons and daughters might be in the hands of the Bush administration."

"Nicholas Berg died for the sins of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld," he said, shortly after posting a "War is not the Answer" sign on his front lawn. "The al-Qaeda people are probably just as bad as they are, but this administration did this."

10. Glad they are gone, but...
it all just harkens back to the trivialization of life, in the eys of rightwingers.. They care "deeply" about the "unborn", but loss of life on someone who is not "one of them" is relegated to "pranks, stunts & frat hi-jinks".:eyes:

It's about time that they start to feel the sting of their own words...in their wallets ...

12. How the hell is it supposed to be FUNNY?!
Laughing at the act? Most vile.

Laughing at how the bastards did it? Most vile.

Laughing at Berg because his political opinions differ? Once again, most vile, and I don't care what his political opinions are. Murdering a person (and others laughing at it) is incredibly vulgar and INHUMAN. Period.
