Bad songs currently or recently stuck in your head
Help me...! I heard that awful early eighties song "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight"... and it keeps repeatng in my head! Arggggh

Anyone else cursed tonight or recently with songs that you can't (couldn't) get out of the head - but wish to heck that you could?

3. arggggggghhhhhh
perhaps we were afflicted with the same curse... flipping channels while doing paperwork and caught a few minutes on a VH1 special on bad songs... both of these were in the top five.

Never could figure how this song came from the same lips and vocal chords as "White Rabbit"

6. That's exactly where I heard it!
I am a HUGE Jefferson Airplane fan, and that's saying something, since I'm 20. I spent my high school years on my back in my room listening to After Bathing at Baxter's. This song makes me want to claw my ears out. It really is the worst song ever.

8. 'America the Beautiful.' I'm audio for singers who do this every show.
They're opera singers and they do it Ray Charles-style with a red-white-and-blue light show and Nuremberg Rally theatrics.

Nationalism makes me puke and I'm trying to talk them out of this Theme Song For Global Lynching.

9. any alternatives that might have some appeal (at least for a change
for your ears)... then again you might end up with "I'm proud to be an American" - done operatic style (yikes!)

13. Funny you should mention that Lee Greenwood faux anthem from Gulf War I
I was the audio engineer for a big outdoor concert series in LA in 2001 mixing the show for over 10,000 people a night, including that horrible 'I'm Proud to be an American' number that fueled the Official End of Vietnam Complex during the First Bush War.

Lee Greenwood came without a front-of-house (audience) engineer and I was responsible for amplifying his show as best as I possibly could. I'm still doing community service to make up for my complicity in this cultural crime.

I later did sound at some rodeos that started with a tape of 'Proud to be an American' timed to end just as a parachute jumper with a car dealer-sized American flag attached to him landed in the middle of the arena to the roar of the crowd.

Americana is played up to the max at rodeos as they sell the idea of the Rugged Individualist American conquering the west, Injuns, animals, and everything else that gets in their way. Very frikkin' American, I'd say.

Later, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed and the stage manager had to tell them they couldn't put up a big Confederate flag on stage. But the audience (all white) was flying plenty of 'em. Their roadcases had viciously racist stickers on them, many of them handwritten.

Lynyrd Skynyrd had a great audio engineer who I merely assisted but I really wanted to pull the plug on these racist guys. 'Sweet Home Alabama' indeed...

18. ah... 1986... DC... kick off for the year long "bicentennial of the
constitution" celebration (the one that the then Chief Justice used as the reason for "retiring" to chair (rumour was that he was being pushed out in order to elevate Renquist). Fourth of July party at the Apartment complex - my apt was three floors above the pool where the party was being held. For HOURS the song was played over and over and over again.

Though the image of the song being done in operatic style (ala the skits on SNL with the music teachers trying to do "hip" pop songs) - does give me a smirking chuckle...

23. Hmmm. I like you. You know your stuff!
I grew up in Northeastern Ohio and, in '79, went to the 'Dixie Valley Jam' down near Columbus. Man, there were a bunch of 'good ol boys' flying the confederate flag. This all went with the feeling of the place and when I look back at those days, I realize how easily Ronald Reagan stole away the votes from Jimmy Carter. (with such subliminal events)?

10. After Seeing Barry Manilow on American Idol,
I couldn't get "Copacabana" out of my head. So I had to make a parody out of it:

"At the Polka, Polka Cabana,
The Polish club north of Havana....

His name was Guido
He wore a speedo
And he danced across the floor just like a weirdo..."

Which of course made it even worse (oh, god).

12. The theme song to the Beverly Hillbillies...
Someone brought a parody song of the shrub administration to our last central committee meeting. The song was sung to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song. We had a sing-along. LOL!

But now I can't get the original out of my head.

16. I have a 'Bad Music' collection. Jim Nabors covering Stevie Wonder songs!
Jim Nabors doing 'You Are the Sunshine of My Life' is pretty funny.

The Brady Bunch doing Don McLean's 'American Pie' is bizarre.

My fave is 'Bugs and Friends Sing Lennon and McCartney.'

You haven't heard anything until you've heard:
Elmer Fudd singing 'The Fool On the Hill'
Daffy Duck spitting his way through 'Yesterday'

24. It's not a 'bad song' per say... but in Mozart's Magic Flute....
the song that The Queen Of The Night sings to her daughter to kill her father has been know to stick within my head, and my friends' head, for weeks!
Considering that the man died when he was thirty five speaks volumes to me.

In fact, I believe 'Moon River' is a good song, but, not one to stick in my head. I'm sorry that you have to listen to this song for more that a week. I will silently put up with 'The Queen Of The Night' within my head.
