Let's bash Ohio!
Well, let's see...

Ohio is the home to such inept politicians as George Voinovich, Mike DeWine, Bob Taft, and Jerry Springer. And Bush won Ohio; if not for Ohio, we wouldn't have had all these problems ovwer the last two years!

Of course, the Buckeyes are without Maurice Clarett. That's because he CHEATED! Long story.

And, of course, a Congressional candidate from Ohio is campaigning for that former Governor of Vermont, George McGovern, instead of fellow Ohioan Dennis Kucinich. Your state must REALLY be in trouble if you don't endorse a resident of your home state for President!

</sarcasm>

Now try to go after Michigan!:P

Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 02:35 PM by rabid_nerd
I bet the only people outside Michigan that knows Detroit is in Michigan are from Michigan.

Are there politicians there? You never hear anything about Michigan. I hear more about Utah and Colorado or (gasp) North Dakota than I do Michigan.

We can spell "it's" correctly too......

Motown's ok but getting old.. Tim Allen I don't like, and Kid Rock - I can take him or leave him.. Not exciting. Funny, I like it when he's with David Spade, but not crazy about his music

3. Ha ha, yeah, it was whoever stole Maurice Clarett's stereo equipment!
Well, as a native Michigander, I was not the least bit surprised Ohio was to blame. After all, wasn't that the state where they tried to arrest people simply for turning around when Bush was speaking at OSU's commencement (not to mention that they had Bush speaking there at all.)

Or, maybe LeBron James bought a new house to go with his Hummer and just turned all the lights on at once.

I can understand why the UP wants to separate. I'd be embarassed, too.

Sad, really, it oculd be a beautiful state. Just needs to figure out its priorities and keep the money-people from running the state and building crap for themselves (Autoworld, anyone? Inside golf courses? Any of this ring a bell?) and not fixing the infrastructure (potholes on the interstate? City roads so bad it's like driving on a country gravel road with lots of rain-caused ripples? (bounce bounce bounce))

But OTOH, couple good legislators from there, and at least one really excellent college. :-)

17. Cincinnati, the most conservative city in the US
Home of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the newspaper that singlehandedly puts the lie to the myth of the "liberal media." Home of the Bengals, possibly the worst team in NFL history. Home of the Cincinnati Reds -- the Kings of Choke, who have broken my heart soooooo many times. Home of the shoot-first-ask-questions-later Cincinnati Police Dept.

There's a reason why SmirkBoy picked Cincinnati to deliver his Iraq Attack speech: it's a friendly crowd for him there. Probably the most conservative city in the US. Really.

38. well..Dayton is pretty bad too...Cincy does have SOME left stuff.
Daytons newspaper, although supposedly Democratic, endorses Republicans fairly frequently.

Cincy does have things like WAIF, Joeseph Beth bookstore, Crazy Ladys, the Contemporary Arts Center, etc....stuff that Dayton doesnt have.

In some ways Dayton is even more conformist, racist, and conservative than Cincy...without the benefit of the neat geography, great parks, and heirloom nieghborhoods.

19. Go right ahead
I can remember when, back in the sixties and early seventies, Ohio was a decent enough state. I left here after I got out of high school, and lived in several other states. I came back in 2000 when my Dad died, but it was totally different. Mike DeWine, a miserable failure of a human being who has never done anything but hold elected offices and father lots of kids, was all of a sudden one of my senators. George Voinovich, a certified liar, was the other. High taxes, repressive gun laws, poor economic opportunity (Ohio ranks something like forty-two out of the fifty states), few jobs other than minimum wage, I could give you a real rundown if you want.

39. Wow, yes! I remember seeing, in the 80s, the troopers on the highway
and they'd just point to speeders, make 'em pull over, and they'd wait until they had a string of cars and do ticketing en masse.

Tough SOBs.

Not as tough as the WI state patrol, of course, but tough.

OK - got bashes but being a buckeye, have to even it out with someting good

1. Sports: Lousy pro teams in Cincinnati and Cleveland but college teams like Ohio State and Mount Union help in the Fall

2. Weather: Freeze - Heat - Drought - Floods (which we had last month) but luckily we have Spring blossoms, Summer flowers, Fall colors, first snowfall

3. Politicans: Too many bad ones to list but every now and then a John Glenn or Dennis Kucinich appears

4. Role Models: For every Maurice Clarett or Art Schlichter there is a Chris Spielman or Archie Griffin

43. Dayton..The Colorado Springs of the Midwest.
The military industrial complex and its conformist "traditional family values" rule here.

This is like Pleasantville or the Truman Show, with minoritys and poor whits safely segregated away in the inner city. Life here revolves around the mall, the church, the kids. Very traditional, very conformist, very racist and intolerant of things new.

Yet also very high tech due to the military R&D going on and some private sector infotech firms.

This is the only place Ive ever been with website developers who are born again christian promise-keeper types.
