Yet Another Remake That Wasn't Needed.... Stephen King's "IT"
Not only is it not needed, the adapation isn't even going to be as close to the book as the old Tim Curry version (which was ok, until the very end).

"Filardi says he has already turned in his outline for the redux to producer Mark Wolper (who also executive produced the new Lot) and Warner Bros. Television. "It's a tricky adaptation to get into two hours," Filardi says. "Of course they'd like to update it. But we think we have a neat angle. If you remember <'Stuttering Bill' Denbrough> the writer was sort've the main character. But we're going to take it from Beverly Marsh's point of view."

1. Yeah, other than that horrible ending the first one was good...
..not great, but good. The ending was horrible though. But I guess given the sexual overtones of the novel's ending there was no way a network was going to touch that with a 10 foot pole.

The miniseries version of the Stand was surprisingly good as well.

2. Sure was!
I've got The Stand on DVD! Great movie, for a TV mini-series anyway.

3. That and turning the "monster" into a giant insectoid
instead of leaving it as an ever-changing "thing" really was awful too.

4. What Did You Expect?
Knowing that Sony and Microshaft are the biggest partners in the Media Industry now.

Imagination from a corporate lackey?

5. I knew when they remade "Carrie"...
...that all was lost. EVERYTHING is being remade now. Look for a remake of "Casablanca" starring Winona Ryder and Hugh Jackman, coming soon to a theatre near you.

6. Changing the perspective and the main character is a lousy idea.
It is Bill's story, all the emotional grace notes are Bill's, the resolutions and crises revolve and resolve on Bill.

7. It has been a while
since I read "It" but wasn't the story begun with Bill and his little brother? Isn't that what actually started the whole involvement of the group? This is a really bad idea. Why remake something anyway, especially something that actually seemed to work for the most part. I agree with the others above that "The Stand" was quite good. It was cast well. As perhaps my favorite King novel I was worried that they would screw it up but it was really quite good for a TV mini.

8. Yeah, it's been a while since I read it, but I think it's really Bill's
story.

11. Nothing can top the book
It is a great read.

I thought the casting for the original mini-series was good-especially Harry Anderson as Ritchie. But like you guys, I found the end was a real disappointment.
