Alabama DUers, what's the mood down there? |
|
I'm just curious. I live in Nebraska, which frequently causes me embarrassment, due to our DINO senator Ben Nelson and my local Rethug congressman, Lee Terry. What's the view from your part of the country? Are most Alabamans in favor of 'Roy's Rock?' Or are many embarrassed, reminded of Gov. Wallace's famous 'last stand' at the school?

1. Are there any Alabama DUers? |
|
Jeez, I'd hate to think the entire state is populated by right-wing fundamentalists!

Mike Shula is a hunk! You know in Bama, the coach is more powerful than the Governer. Maybe he can get Roy to take down the monument.

3. Here in Huntsville, we just shake our heads |

What else can we do? There are religious nutjobs all over the country (like the ones occupying the White House and the Justice Department) but since it's Alabama it gets noticed more.
We have more than our share of bad publicity in Alabama which is a shame because it's such a beautiful state. Mountains up here in the North part and the Gulf down South.

If you find a red v. blue county map of the country, you will find a thick blue segment of the south that 's right in the middle of the state (including Marengo County, where I'm from).
My two cents: Somebody should save the state a lot of money in fines, and Superglue various items to the monument in an act of civil disobedience.
Suggestions:
A portrait of the goal line stand.
A set of chain-gang shackles.
Copies of Helen Keller books.
Various pictures of the civil rights demonstrations.
Confederate flags. (this might be the easiest thing - little refrigerator magnets of the Confederate flag with Superglue on the back. Smear and flick).
If enough people made a pilgrimage to the monument with their own contribution to the GlueDown, the monument would eventually be worthless and have to be destroyed. Problem solved.
