One thing I really admire about Phil Collins:
At least when he was with Genesis...he always tried to make all of his stage announcements and tell his stories in the language of the country in which they were performing. I'm currently listening to a show from 1980 in Canada, and he's speaking French. I've also got shows where he speaks German, Spanish, Portuguese, and probably one or two others.

He's also an amazing drummer. His music these days is complete crap, though.

1. How do you forgive him for Sue-Sue-Sudio?

2. The words might be stupid, but it's a damn good pop song.
That's how. I try to not be one of those Genesis fans who judges later Genesis or early solo Collins on the same level as "Supper's Ready". (Not that I'm saying you are, mind you.) Some of that later stuff is just great pop music.

5. There were definitely three distinct Genesis eras
Edited on Thu May-20-04 07:55 PM by tridim
Pre "Lamb", Post "Lamb" up until "Genesis", and Post "Genesis". I guess "Invisible Touch" had a few good songs. "I can't dance" and everything after it made me sick to my stomach.

I liked Sussudio when it first came out, but I don't think about it much any more. It kind of faded into the past. Decent song though, especially the horns.

6. I never could get into him. I liked the homeless song he did.

3. He tried Japanese too!
I saw him in concert in '89 or '90 in Osaka, Japan. He tried speaking Japanese, but he didn't do very well. Finally, he gave up and said nobody could understand his crappy Japanese! At least he tried. :)
