What was your worst childhood nightmare? |
|
Mine was being run-over by a train.
I would be having a pleasant dream and then...honk-honk, here it comes! It never mattered where I was or how fast I ran, the train always ran me down. I could be in a hallway and open a door..there was the light of the speeding train. I could be running down a hill and into the woods, but the speeding train would be waiting there to run me down!
I was always screaming in terror as I awakened just before the train would run me down. Finally I stopped the nightmare when I stopped running from the train and waited for it to hit me. Then my fear was gone and so were my nightmares.

1. Usually somebody dying, or my house burning up |
|
Pretty much everyone I love or have loved has died in my dreams... When I was younger, I used to dream about my house burning down a lot, and then not be able to go to sleep because of it :(

2. OMIGOD! I had this recurring nightmare..... |
|
about circular saw blades running down the sides of my bed, and cutting off anything that hung over the edge. I swear I still sleep totally within the borders of my bed to this day! So, one day when I was all grown up, I was watching the new Twilight Zone (or possibly Outer Limits), and there, in living color, was MY DREAM on the TV!!!! I was so freaked out! There it was, this kid on a bed, with sawblades, and he's screaming, and holding his arms and legs close to his body! It freaked me out soooooo much that MY DREAM was someone's screenplay!!!
BTW, thanks a fucking lot for bringing this memory back to me at quarter til one in the morning, you jerk!!!! (j/k)

3. For a while when I was a kid, it was quicksand |
|
But now that I have worked as a field biologist and run into quicksand numerous times, it's no longer scary. For a good long time when I was an adolescent, it was the movie Alien. That really shook me up.

4. I don't really want to say anything |
|
But it was so horrible I don't think I can possibly post it without coming off wrong. It was just so horrible, I can't believe I even had a dream like that.

5. We all have had dreams like that.. |
|
Edited on Sun May-23-04 01:02 AM by flaminbats
when it happened to me I would try to focus my mind to have it again before I went to sleep. For some reason the nightmare would never return. These types of dreams only seem to happen when you don't wish for them!

7. I used to have some scary dreams that were really psychological |
|
where a monster (alien) would chase me into a contained area, and I would be behind a door, and it would scratch at the door for about 20 minutes of dream-time...nothing but it scratching at the door, and I couldn't get away... I have no idea what that says about me.

9. Being attacked while I couldn't move or scream |
|
Unfortunately, I still occaisionally have this nightmare and really end up with sleep paralysis for a short time. This makes it especially horrible. Fortunately, it hasn't happened to me for a while.

I had nightmares about bombs falling, especially when visiting my grandmother, who lived under one of the approaches to the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. Those airplane noises would get incorporated into my dreams. :scared:

I had a recurring dream that the rest of the world had been turned into vampires a'la "I Am Legend" and I had to sleep in the trunk of a neighbors wrecked car at night to keep them from getting to me. I could see them out of a keyhole and they wanted to kill me, so they kept clawing on the metal. I think I was about 5 years old or so.

19. Frankly, my worst childhood nightmares occurred when I was awake. |
|
I grew up with a mentally ill mother and a drunken, abusive father. With that kind of reality, who the fuck needed to have nightmares???
