Did strike duty w/SBC workers yesterday
It was rewarding. I do not work for SBC nor am I in a union. I do, however, support union workers. I am in Jobs with Justice, http://jwj.org, and we promise to "be there" with other workers in their struggles.

It was fun and the SBC workers really appreciated the support. While I was there I saw people drive by and express their support by waving their hands and/or honking their horns.

I don't know if most understand that when union workers lose, all workers lose or if they just do not like the phone company.

So, if you are in an area where the SBC workers are striking, how about giving your fellow workers an hour of your day. It IS appreciated!

An injury to one is an injury to all: IWW (who had it right 100 years ago but were harrassed by the government and the more centrist labor leaders such as Samuel Gompers).

1. Thanks for doing whatever you can in this.
I'm also in Jobs with Justice here in Seattle, and was out with them in yesterday's March & Rally in behalf of "Affordable Health Care For All". JwJ works very closely with the labor movement here, and provides the close community support so important in winning. The labor movement has been under merciless attack from at LEAST since the Eighties (PATCO), and have been almost marginalized. Without that strong community support, the labor movement will just keep becoming more marginalized and irrelevant.

BTW: that phrase, "An injury to one is an injury to all", dates back to the Knights of Labor. But you're correct; it was the Wobblies that made it central to their beliefs. At present, ILWU follows that creed. But until the rest of the labor movement starts to live by it, things will only get worse.

2. Don't ever forget that big business's primary objective is union busting
and they work hand-in-hand with republican strategists (example: the recent change in the overtime laws). It is indeed correct that when any union goes on strike it is for the benefit of all workers everywhere. So when you see a picket line be sure and show your support.
