close the doors in the room where you think it is.
Open the windows and screens. It will go out eventually.
You can try to find it, but they are small and very good at hiding. Try looking in between slats of radiators, behind things, up high...
If you see it, get an empty plastic container with a big mouth (jumbo peanut butter container for example). Cover the bat with it so it's inside the jar. Then get a stiff cardboard and slide it to cover the mouth of the jar. Then let the bat go outside.
Bats are fun aren't they! :-)

3. She did catch it - but my screams startled Evita |
|
and the bat got away.
At first I thought Evita was being electrocuted.
And yes, Evita has had her rabie shots

4. If you must pick it up... |
|
...wear gloves!!!!!
There is a chance that it is rabid.
If you get so much as a scratch from it, you will need to get to the ER at once.

5. We had one in our basement yesterday! |
|
I'd never met one up close and in person before. He was just sitting on the floor, yelling angry little bat yells :D Let him out and he flew away...
I agree, good luck finding him if he is hiding. They are much smaller than I thought!

On edit: I have them brush my hair often, at dusk here in the mountains. There are bat-caves in a massive rock outcropping about 50 yards, and up the mountain, behind the house. Yes, do be careful. Did your cat bring it in? Must have.

8. Don't kill it, though. |
|
Bats are good things. They eat tons of mosquitos.
We have a bat house nailed high up in a tree in our yard. I love watching them come out at dusk, flapping their little wannabe-wings like crazy.
"Eat them skeeters," I am know to cry.

14. If my trusty Tennis Racket or Cat happens... |
|
...to bring harm to that bat - then so be it.
I'm sure there are hundreds of other bats out there that will eat those mosquitos. I personally will do what it takes to get this thing out of there

9. Trade you! I ran into a 4 ft long snake in my garage |
|
on Friday. The door was closed and I went to toss a bag into the trash can. The snake hissed and lunged at me, the trash went flying and I ran screaming back into the house. We live in a subdivision in the middle of town. This is the 4th snake I have encountered in my house/small yard in two years. Hubby was gone for the weekend, so I opened the garage door, made lots of noise and hoped the damn snake decided to move on. Remind me again why I live in Florida??

10. Wait until you find an alligator under your car. |
|
I lived in Florida. I've heard too many stories. My critter story: One of my friends came over with their child. She went to the bathroom and came out saying, "You have some funny looking bugs in your bathroom!" She had found some scorpions on the wall.

12. We did have an alligator sunning himself |
|
in our backyard. Twice this month we have encountered 4 ft plus snakes during my son's golf tournaments.
I grew up in AZ, my family is still there. My sister found a scorpion on her baby's changing table. The moral is that you can never be too careful.

Who said I voted for Jeb?? On the other hand, I did vote on a Diebold machine. Maybe I did, even though I intended to vote for McBride.
