How do you go without bottom teeth for 8 weeks? (I am a girl)
I have to have most of my teeth removed on the bottom and I don't want to quit College. If I quit College it will mean that I will have to live on Disability the rest of my life.

The dentist told me last night that I would have to go without teeth for 8 weeks. How do I go to class and kept my mouth shut for the whole semester?

There is one girl that makes fun of my teeth all of the time and she is a dental assistant. She makes fun of everyone but I have ended up running to the bathroom and crying because of the bitch.

One day she asked me how I could come to school with teeth on the bottom as bad as mine and it hurt so bad. A couple of the students were going to beat her up and I told them not to.
I am a nice person and I use to be a dental assistant and I didn't know how bad I looked until she brought it up.
Everyone does not like her including instructors but I know that she will tell everyone that my teeth are missing.

I can't quit so what should I do?

Anyone know where I can buy a burkha?

2. This is fixable
The dentist can give you a temporary denture to wear till the soft tissues heal and they can go to work on the permanent fix. It won't be useful for much more than a cosmetic fix. This is routine practice when they do the uppers, but you may need to push for it when getting the bottom teeth done.

I don't have an answer to your dilemma...Perhaps there are such things as a thing as tempory false teeth? Maybe an acting studio could loan them out?

6. I might have to buy some Billy Bob teeth for a while
My teeth look better then those right now but they would do.

My Mom lost her teeth at 26 and my Sister lost her teeth in her early 20's also.

I found out last night that what I have is hereditary. What the hell my ancestors were from England and I think that we are cursed.

41. Cora a grown woman, executive friend of mine went without her teeth
for 3 months. This is a woman who makes 100K a year, and she was in the same shape as you.

She'd had tooth implants some 20 years ago following a bad auto accident, all her front teeth, top and bottom. For some unknown reason, last summer, her body literally rejected all the implants, and they had to be removed, and she had to have daily surgeries to battle infection and nasty stuff. This was during the hieght of the real estate sales boom, and she is one of the best escrow officers in Los Angeles, she HAD to go to work. There was no option, so she just DID it. She met with customers, bankers, business people, day in, day out, just saying she was having dental surgery and keeping her mouth as closed as possible. She got through it, and in fact got offered an even higher paying job a few months ago! Her mouth is fine now, BTW.

So, girl, just do what you have to do, and tell that miserable bitch to fukc off. If people want to judge you, let them. You'll learn who your friends are darlin.

had not a tooth in his head. The optimistic side is, you wouldn't want to be friends with a that group anyway, now it's just easier to tell who they are. I know it's tough. Come here early and often for doses of love and adoration from those who care.

Take care sweetie! laura

50% of the people in this country who have false teeth are under the age of 50.
the idiots making fun of you will probably learn one day soon how painful and emotionally upsetting your condition is!
if your dentist can't help with a temporary plate, ask your theater dept. faculty for advice! how do you think jerry lewis and all of those other actors got those ugly-looking teeth?

don't forget, though: 8 weeks may seem like a lifetime right now, but it's just a blip on your lifeline!

11. You just do it, corarose.
When I was 16, I broke my tailbone. I had to carry around a pillow shaped like a toilet seat and place it on my seat before I slowly and carefully sat on it. For a 16 year old in high school it was extremely embarassing. This went on for a couple months. I had no choice. They have no casts for broken butts, you just have to be extremely careful after they pop the bone back in place. I was taunted by those who assumed I had hemmorhoids and made other nasty comments.

You'll get over it. Just keep your chin up and a smile on your face. Many will come to admire the steadfastness and dignity you exhibit while enduring your ordeal.

That rude girl at school doesn't get to have rent-free space in your head! Sounds like everybody has her number anyway. Being mean like that reflects on her rather than you.

Go to school. Hold your head up too. You have NOTHING to be ashamed of. You are getting medical treatment for heavens sake - there is no shame in that. Maybe the dentist can fix you up with something temporary.

You have to finish College, corarose. I'll kick your butt if you quit. ;)

No, I don't have big bucks I owe a ton of student loans.

We have a group of people that we start our classes with and for 2 years we work with that group. We had around 75 people start when I did and I have been working with them in different classes.

"Jill" is now on her own and the friends that she did have switched partners and she is on her own.

She has a MOUTH on her and people have been offended by her on many occasions.

One time she blamed a person who is outside her race for stealing her stuff and they she found out she left her things in her car.
People don't like the women and that's it.

31. Talk to the college Ombuds office
No one should have to put up with harassment like that in a post-secondary institution. Go to the Ombudsman's office, or Student Services, or your Dean, or Disabled Student Services, or a professor you trust -- or all of the above. Where I went to school, pulling shit like that could get you expelled, and I suggest you take some serious action with the school authorities. Don't try to deal with this yourself.

She has blamed people outside of her race for stealing and it makes you sick.

Her stuff was in her car and she blamed a girl that lives in Hyde Park for stealing her things. The girl is from a wealthy family and she was going to get tossed out when they found out that her equipment was in her car.

That's why she has been warned in the parking lot on many occasions.

18. To get through it
focus on the positive outcomes. It sounds like you have been in extreme pain and suffering for quite some time now. Your classmates snide remarks probably made you feel self-conscious as well.

You're already on the proper course of antibiotics so you should be feeling much healthier soon. Even if you weren't in pain, that raging infection was taking a toll on your overall health. You will be able to wake up, go to sleep and the entire course of your day pain free.

And, when it's all done, think of how much better you will feel. You will be able to eat and smile with confidence. I'm sure this has been taking a physical and emotional toll on you.

If someone gives you a hard time, just reply that you have a medical condition and are undergoing treatment. Would they laugh at or make fun of someone missing a limb?

Most of the students are either very young or they are people going back to college for a second degree or changing careers.

I am a teachers aid at the school but I don't get paid for it and I only do it for 4 classes.

One of my instructors has helped me for the past 6 months get through my courses.

I don't think that he likes her at all. He use to be a famous baseball player and now he owns several restaurants and teaches classes.

27. corarose, once you finish college and get a good job
with dental insurance, or once we get a real progressive government and we ALL have dental insurance, you could get dental implants to replace your teeth, if your bones are strong enough. I have one and it is exactly like a real tooth. Some people get a full set of implants. So keep your eye on the ball. You have things to do, and no one as mean and stupid as that chick should get in your way. Keep moving forward and leave her in your dust. Let karma deal with her.

I'm so glad you are alright. We were worried about you.

28. Keep your chin up
I had to have teeth removed top and bottom two years ago, due to not visiting a dentist until age 18. My parents did not have dental insurance for us when we were kids, and I finally took myself to the dentist once I got a job. Thus began 20 years of trying to correct the years of neglect. I got the bottom extractions, 4 of them, and I wore what's called a flipper for 4 weeks. Then I had a permanent bridge put in that looks completely natural. Soon after, I had my top four teeth removed, since my mouth was too small and my periodontal disease too advanced for orthodontics. A permanant bridge was put in the top as well. I now have a beautiful smile, and it has taken me a while to get used to smiling, but I love being able to smile without shame. You will be so amazed what it does for your self-esteem. As for school, I have been going part time for 4 years to get an A.A.S., and have 10 months left to go. KEEP GOING!! Don't let anyone or anything stop you from getting your education; it is the key to freedom. Only you can change your situation, and the most important thing I have discovered is that belief in yourself and your ability to succeed can take you very far in life. Good luck corarose!:hi:

Unfortunately, there are so many miserable, horrible, nasty people out there and you just can't let one of them bring you down. After reading the long thread about your teeth I'm just happy that you are safe and on the road to recovery. It's dumbfounding that people don't realize that virtual everyone will have a period of time when they won't look their best. I am really not someone who curses, but fuck 'em!

On a more polite note, I find looking someone in the eye after an insult and simply asking in calm manner, "why are you so unkind?" usually is enough to embarrass them to stop.

Take really good care of yourself.

40. If you're in college and someone is doing that to you
Then you need to report that to the school authorities.

If you were of a race, sexual preference, religious belief, or just the opposite sex and I harassed you, there are laws to prevent this.

You have a disability; however, one it seems that you are working on to correct. The Dean of Students should pull that girl into his/her office and tell the student that if she (the student) continues her harassment disciplinary actions will be taken.

There's a lawsuit in there for harassment if the school refuses to do something.

The young ones are nice and they are the ones that want to beat her up all of the time and the older ones tell them to let her go she will get it in the end.
She accused a young black girl of stealing one day and the girl was the only person in the class outside the white race at the time. The bitches stuff was missing and she pointed to the young girl and asked her where her things were at. The whole class was disgusted when she picked this one kid out and it turned out that she left her things in her car.
No apology was given to the girl but the College wrote her up and warned her.

You know I have partials, and you know what else? I don't wear them half the time, and I get thru life just fine. I am also in college, full time, and I am far more concerned with my grades than with how people feel about how I look. You're there to learn and achieve, not to win a popularity/beauty contest. If that girl harasses you, look her in the eye and tell her to fuck off.

Real beauty is on the inside, it's not just a cliche. Hold your head high and get on with your schooling. People like her are not worth your time or energy, trust me.
